“Decent hotel but extra costs mount up”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2012

We stayed at the hotel over the new year in 2011. The price we paid for the room was quite competitive, and the hotel upgraded us to a seaview room at no extra cost on check in since they didn't have any regular rooms with two beds as we had requested. Location is great for the airport and close to the beach, but a bit of a drive in and out of LA and the Anaheim attractions. The hotel and rooms were generally in good condition although the TV was a little old and didn't have great picture quality, and the bathroom door was a little odd - louvre design didn't really give much privacy. Major complaint about the hotel though was the add on charges. $23 - 27 per day to park, $10 per day per device for wifi. Breakfast in the hotel restaurant was full buffet at $23 or $16 for continental with no a la carte option - very overpriced for what it was. Room service was similarly highly priced for the quality. Overall I would not stay again because of the add on costs.

Stayed here for 3 nights post cruise. Room was very comfortable, and we had a side on view of the sea and a very small balcony. Didn't much enjoy the buffet breakfast at 'Splash' - found it to be very expensive when my partner only has cereal and tea, and yet they still charge full continental buffet price. I had the cooked breakfast, but there wasn't a lot of choice.
For our evening meals we ate via room service, and these meals were outstanding every time.
The location of the hotel was excellent, you could walk easily down to the harbour area, where there were pubs and eateries and a fish market at the end. The atmosphere here was lovely too. All in all a good hotel with friendly staff.

Locals know the best beaches near LAX are south of the airport. Redondo is the largest of the South Bay cities, and this may be the largest hotel in the area. Therein lay the problem, my room was not well vacuumed. Maybe the property is too big for this crew & mgmt. team to keep thoroughly clean. The property looks ok for its age but needs to improve. For example, the third floor hallway smelled, the TV was old, and it had only a handful of cable channels beside HBO (not even History channel!?). However, there are many benefits to this well situated property. The sliding patio door lets in the wonderful, clean ocean air. I had a sliver of an ocean view, and it is the best location for accessing the coastal bike path, the pier, King Harbor marina, and a nearby greenbelt jogging trail. The nearby triathlon store and numerous surf surfs indicate that this is fitness central. Gold's Gym is attached to the hotel, too. There are many food options such as Cheesecake Factory which is across the street, and Whole Foods just four blocks east. This hotel can be a good value if the room is booked at a deep discount. Also, be prepared to either pay $23 to park or walk a few blocks if parking in the residential area. I did not use most of the facilities such as the cafe, pool, or spa, but I can vouch for the friendliness of the late night front desk staff.

Redondo Beach is a very nice place and in this hotel you can ask for a room with a wonderful view of sunrise or sunset; besides is very convenient to have breakfast in some of the nice restaurants on the beach, like Pollys or Rubies.

One night, Executive Level ocean front....if you consider a huge parking lot ocean front. Yes, you can see the ocean, if you can get passed the huge pk. lot.
The balcony sliding door was so hard to pull open and shut, it took the strength of my two arms to try and drag it open. My husband is tall and very strong, and he even shook his head in disgust! Tiny balcony, but it was nice to look out over the (have I mentioned huge parking lot?) marina breaker and ocean. Cannot walk out to the beach, as you would just be at the marina. I have to guess it would be about a 2 block walk to get to the water at the marina. A few restaurants including Crab Shack and Rubys, located across the street.
Executive Level Rooms are in big need of refurbishing. It was very clean. E.L. amenities include a scaled down continental breakfast compared to LAX Crowne Plaxa. Great staff, they attended to everything we asked of them and more. Room condition was very clean, just need some work on carpet and furnishings. Bed was very comfortable. Bath was clean but needs some sprucing up. I spoke with the front desk, referring to the the description of ocean front rooms on crowneplaza.com. To be fair to guests that expect oceanfront to be ocean front, I suggested they might consider revamping the description. Miguel discounted our bill due to this. I did not expect this nor ask for it, he just did it and told me afterward. Very kind of him, but all the staff is this way. May not stay at this location again, but stick with Crowne Plaza.

Room Tip: Always ask for a complimentary upgrade to Executive Level. In some cases it can be done!

I stayed in the Crone Plaza at Redondo about 10 years ago. It's still in the same place and the location is excellent. The staff are very helpful but the place is just a bit tired. It's fine but don't expect anything other than ok. The walls a a bit on the paper thin side any my neighbour had a very loud voice all night.
