“Best Breakfast Ever”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2011

My family spent 3 nights in May 13 to 16. The property is so-so, not too many I can mention. However, the breakfast they provide really make me and my family happy for 3 days. 4 kinds of donuts, 4 kinds of brand name cereals, STARBUCKS Coffee, Waffles, Brand Name Juices. Toasts for sure. For 30 bucks a night motel, this is the best. Good value for the bucks. Don't get up too late, it ends at 9:00 a.m.

“Smelly room, poor customer service.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2009

The Howard Johnson of Redlands is a dive at its best. The room we stayed in faced a poorly lit hallway, giving the room a gloomy atmosphere even when the sun was shining brightly outside. The door did not close fully without needing to be pulled or pushed roughly into place. The room itself smelled like a nursing home, a combination of body odor, mildew, and mild cleaning supplies. The bathroom was by far the worst part of the experience. Management purchased the least expensive toilet paper I have ever encountered, it was not even perforated. The shower head was only five and a half feet high, which was fine for me, as I am 5 foot three, however would be problematic for anyone taller. Finally the bath tub was missing its stopper, and when I called to inquire I was informed that they don’t stock any extra tub stoppers and that I should just use a washcloth to stop the drain. While functional and utilitarian, this solution lacked a significant level of alignment with customer needs, and speaks to a poorly maintained and managed hotel. The only upsides to this experience was the free wireless internet and the complimentary waffle breakfast (and even then the coffee was horrible).

“Steer clear of this place!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2007

I booked here because I thought the name would be a good bet. This place used to be the Sandman, as was evident shining through the paper HoJo sign taped over it.

We tried two rooms before canceling our stay and going somewhere else. Both rooms were filthy, furniture had thick layer of dust, rugs filthy, toilets in both rooms had problems (in one, it was cracked and kept running; in the other, the handle was snapped off).

It truly felt like HoJo took over this flea trap and had done nothing to update it or even to clean up. It's in a run-down part of town, across from an adult shop, down the street from a "Hustler" club, with police sirens and the freeway as a backdrop.

Very poor choice!

“worst service ever!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2007

I have never in all my travels for work ran into a management team that was as unprofessional or lacked the common customer service skills as I did here.

“Not the safest area of town”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2007

This hotel is about on par with what many families traveling the highways and byways in the ol'truckster have come to expect. Clean room, working air conditioner, towels. etc. The bed is actually very comfy. So why the low rating? It's simple, this hotel is right under a freeway overpass in a not-the-safest section of town.

Redlands used to be a sleepy suburb/bedroom community of LA and Orange County with a lot of pretention wrapped in it's "historic" past. Now, it's the closest enclave of "nice" to the drug-addled pit that is San Bernardino. Word of advice: make yourself very familiar with the FBI's wanted list before you let your kids play with the "polite young man" in the adequate-for-road-trippers pool. Best advice: skip this hotel and head west on the 10 one more exit. There's another hotel that is well lit, at least, and newer.

  • Liked — The bed is very comfy. Honestly, I wanted to take it home with me.
  • Disliked — The location is scary and there is no light. All manner of beasties could be lurking. Only here, they're high on meth.
