We were on our way home from visiting the redwoods and had decided beforehand to sleep in Redding on our way home to Utah. We found the Vagabond Inn on a travel web site for a rate that we could afford and booked the reservation.
We were running late in our traveling and finally pulled in at about 2am. I was tired and just wanted a decent bed and a shower. What I got was the hotel owner quizzing me about how I got the rate that I did, that the room I had booked went for at least $50 more, and then proceeded to drag his feet while checking us in. Then after all that, he would not give me a key to the room, but walked me over to our room and opened it with the master key. A bit frightening at 2am.
Our room was a disaster. The beds had mattresses that were at least 10 years out of date. I could feel every coil in my back. The paint was stripped from the walls in places. There was no hairdryer or coffee machine. And the towels were scratchy.
Let’s just say that I have literally paid far less for a far better room in Managua.
Never again… Ever!
