“Decent hotel for a reasonable price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

My husband and I stayed the night here as a stopover on our California road trip.

The Good: The hotel is older, but they've done a lot to update it (fresh paint, new tile in the bathroom, etc.). They offer a decent continental breakfast which was great for us, since we left pretty early. They also had a small outdoor pool area that looked nice, but we didn't have time to enjoy.

The Not-So-Good: The bathrooms are on the smaller side and the rooms aren't as sound proof as a newer hotel might be. We did wake up a couple of times from the train and/or helicopter from the nearby hospital, but nothing that kept us up all night.

Overall, I feel like we got what we paid for. It's nothing fancy, but it felt safe and clean and gave us a good night's sleep, so nothing to complain about.

My boyfriend and I stayed for two nights. The bed was very comfortable, more comfortable than our bed at home. The room was very clean. The shower was a little small, and there was this weird step up into the bathroom that I kept hitting every time I went to the bathroom (this is minor, but something they should check into fixing). The breakfast was basic, but good. We would definitely stay here again. The location worked well for us too, right down town.

We really appreciated the super clean room with a king bed and the owners try to be as green as possible. The rooms do back onto busy streets so there was traffic noise until about 9pm. It is unfortunate that Redding downtown is so underused. It has the potential to have a nice, walkable core, but most places vacated to the (ghastly Hilltop area) burbs. There are a few galleries and some decent restaurants downtown. All walking distance from Thunderbird Lodge.

For a low budget motel, the rooms are clean and nicely appointed. Located in the downtown area and near some attractions. Only downside is that the walls are thin, so you can hear the neighbors, and any outside noise.

The downtown location was actually reasonably quiet. The older establishment has been nicely renovated and everything was clean. Appointments were nice and the beds were quite comfortable. The check-in was efficient. Want some good food and a beer? Try Maxwell's across the street. I have put that place in a separate review.

This hotel was a total gem! We stayed the weekend for $125.00 and our room had new furniture, carpeting, flat screen tv, and a soft bed which I personally like. There was a nice refrigerator, microwave, hairdryer and ice bucket provided. I was holding my breath when I opened the door and was relieved. The bathrooms are small, just a shower and an odd mister / spray nozzle but it worked! Location was great and we had some good meals around the corner. We didn't go to breakfast so I cannot speak to that. Check in was efficient, easy and I felt safe there. The owners are walking that property regularly. Definitely will stay here again and yes the walls are a bit thin so I would suggest getting an upstairs room for sure.

If you you look at the reviews of the other Redding hotels, the higher rated ones are all more expensive to much more expensive. We got our room for $55 a night plus tax on Orbitz! We were very pleased with the room and slept well on the king sized bed. The breakfast was very basic, but adequate. Except for a train rolling by about 8:00 PM our upstairs room was very quiet. This was a great value! We will stay here again on our way to visit our son in Seattle. By the way we had dinner at Tapas on Oregon St. Three blocks away and really enjoyed it! Another highly rated trip advisor place.
