“Decent room. Train noise a downer.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2012

We booked this room after poking around on my girlfriends smart phone after arriving in town late at night after a long drive. The room was surprisingly modern inside, with decent features. Check-in/out was a breeze. The only issue was a train that seemed to run near the hotel twice that night. The horn on the train did blow both times, and it woke us up both times, but it didn’t last long and we were able to return to sleep. We’d rank the hotel higher, but that train noise is kind of a downer.

Booked last minute after reading reviews and looking at photos. Located in downtown Redding near Mercy Hospital, Shasta College and the Police Dept. I was a little concerned about the area. I can say that the area is fairly quiet and I felt safe. We stayed in an upstairs room. Because we didn't want a room that had pets in it due to my allergies. The rooms looked like they were recently remodeled. New carpet, furniture, tile in bathrooms, flat screen tv with a decent selection of cable/sat channels, small refrig and microwave and a small table with 2 chairs. The shower was interesting, it sprayed water out in a high pressure mist/liquid, I actually liked it. The bed mattress was a little soft for us, but there were plenty of pillows. They have free wi-fi and are happy to provide access codes. Vending and ice machine is located by the office and is outdoors. Pool looked clean but I didn't see anyone using it, we didn't either. No jacuzzi. They have a breakfast room located by the pool open from 7a-9a. Coffee, milk, OJ, Fruit loops, Frosted flakes, Raisin Bran cereal, a nice variety of danish and mini muffins, bread for toasting, butter and jelly, bananas and apples. A/C is tucked around the corner where there is a small area to hang clothes, it took a little while to cool the room down, but once it was cool it did a good job of keeping it cool. Being located in downtown makes it convenient to go out to eat. About 2-3 miles down hwy 44 at the hilltop exit there are the chain restaurants, in a .7 mile radius are the local restaurants. One night we did a take out at Gironda's. It's a family owned Italian restaurant. Had the fried ravioli and the seafood risotto.
For the price it was so-so, but the staff was very friendly and helpful. There was a wide variety of people staying at the Lodge from 20's to 70's. I was told by one of the guests that there was a group across the parking lot in the other building who had a little too much partying and created a disturbance but I didn't hear any of it. I had a little trouble remembering the one-way streets, so be aware that when you enter/exit the lodge which direction the traffic goes. We were happy with our stay and for the price it made it even better. If we visit the area again we will definitely come back.

Room Tip: The 100 numbered rooms are quieter since they don't face the street. There are no elevators.

Thank you for reviewing us. We are glad to hear that you had satisfactory stay. We hope we can serve you the next time you are in town.
From time to time we get group reservations who are here for an event. Every so often we get a group that wants to enjoy the evening. However if their enjoyment becomes a nuisance for other guests we try our best to control the situation.
The one way streets in downtown are little confusing and so we have maps of downtown in our lobby to assit you in getting around. Our staff will also happily help you find your way.

This property is just a few mins off I-5, towards the small downtown area of Redding. It is in the traditional older "motel-strip" part of town, with other similar properties nearby. We were put on the second floor near the outdoor pool area. The room was somewhat renovated, clean and basic - exactly as adverstised which is good. The high ceilings were interesting and the fridge/micro and flat panel TV were quite decent. The only complaint was lack of a bathtub (shower stall only - not an issue for us personally) and the noise. The window-banger A/C unit was a bit noisy but the real issue as the traffic noise that came in around the air gaps near the A/C unit. The street behind the room was quite busy as it was a feeder to the Interstate. Also, there is a nearby train track so you will hear the train horns peridiocally throughout the night.

The reception was fine and the family that runs that plan does take pride in what they do. They live on-site and are there when/if you need them 24/7.

If you are looking to save a bit of money for an overnight stay near I-5 in the Redding area - then this place is ideal as the value is quite good.

Room Tip: Request a second floor room (higher ceilings and a little less noise).

Thank you for your valued review. We have recently completed the remodel of our guest rooms. We would like to thank all our guest who have appriciated our clean and modern guests rooms.

We have tried to sound proof the guest rooms as much as possible and are limited to the design of the building. When installing new A/C units, much attention is given to making sure there are no gaps.

We will continue to update and maintain our property as economics allow us. Our ultimate goal is to give our guests the best value deal in town.

We booked this hotel based on the good reviews. The last time we passed by Redding we stayed at the Super 8 and we did not want to go back there. We were met with a friendly check-in clerk here at Thunderbird, he could have been the owner, not sure. Checking in was easy and he volunteer the code for wi-fi access which was very nice. At first we wanted a room downstairs but he suggested a room upstairs because it would be quieter. The room was very clean and updated. The AC was already on when we walked in so it was very nice. Towels were fresh and new. The location of the lodge was in downtown but it's an OK area, very convenient once you are familiar with the area. Breakfast was in the room by the pool and very basic. Coffee, orange juice, 3 kinds of cereal, toast, danish, apples and bananas. I wish they have a waffle maker, that will certainly give them another point. But all in all we were happy with our stay here and will definitely come back if we are in the area again.
On a side note, we had dinner at the Cattlemen's Steakhouse, they had their Monday special--Prime Rib dinner for $16.99.

Room Tip: Upstairs opposite of the pool

We just needed a room to overnight in Redding and when I booked I was not sure what to expect....when we arrived we were pleasantly surprised at how clean the rooms were and you could tell they had recently been updated! More than we needed for our short stay, continental breakfast included.....and for a very reasonable price! Would certainly recommend.

Rooms are being remodeled with furnishings that are attractive and efficient. Room size is good. Microwave, mini-fridge, are included along with cable TV & 2 HBO stations. Rooms are clean. Staff is friendly & helpful. Menus of nearby restaurants are available in lobby. We enjoyed food at informal Taqueria Los Gordo & breakfast at Corbett's Restaurant--both within easy walking distance. If we take this same trip again in two years,we will definitely stay here.

Room Tip: There is no elevator, so request first floor to the back if carrying luggage upstairs is a problem.

Good place to stop if you need to spend a night near Redding. Rooms were clean and the grounds well kept. Has a very cool sign. Free breakfast nothing to write home about. Beds were comfy but the pillows not so much. Still, it's hard to be let down given the price tag.
