“Not bad, but I wouldn't stay again”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2011

The Good -
1) Centered downtown so many things are within walking distance.
2) Fairly cheap.
3) Decently clean.
4) Provided free WI-Fi.

The Bad -
1) Continental breakfast was a joke. It consisted of nothing more than a banana and orange Juice.
2) Was located very close to hospital and therefore you could hear sirens all night long.
3) Room was very outdated.
4) Parking lot does not appear to be very monitored at night. Car is at great risk.

We needed a very cheap, clean and convenient place to stay for the night, and the Thunderbird Lodge exceeded everything else we looked at in Redding, CA. Staff was very friendly, rooms were clean and quiet, parking lot was well lit and felt secure. Perfect place to spend a quick night on a trip, I would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Booked online 2 days prior and got a great room

There is nothing you can do when your motel is only a few yards from the Regional Hospital: helicopters flying at any time, Emergency Vehicles with loud sirens at 11pm or 3am...
The motel is fine, the service and the rooms are fine too, however this is the worst experience I´ve had in years. What makes me sad is saying this when the motel has nothing to do with my bad experience. Next time, if I ever come back to Redding, I´ll go to the other location when more expensive hotels are, at the other side of the I-5.

I am a traveling medical professional. I always choose Thunderbird Lodge when in Redding since I discovered it a year or so ago - after being disgusted with the management of a nearby motel. It is clean, staff are friendly and helpful, daily maid service is a plus compared to similar nearby places.
The in-room coffee maker, microwave and decent sized mini-fridge/freezer are so convenient and save me significant money over "to go" food from resturants. (I suggest bringing bottled water, Redding City water is horrible for coffee.)
I had a problem with the shower head - and they replaced it without complaint.
There is external noise - helicopter etc- but not really a problem for me with doors and windows closed.
They recently started a basic contenintal breakfast starting at 0700, & I have to be at work at 0700 - they told me I could just ring the bell and they would set it up early for me.
Good basic accomodations with good value. Much better than that "six" place.

Room Tip: Tell them the shift you are working - for quiet.

The Thunderbird is in the heart of downtown Redding. It's clean, inexpensive, and in walking distance to most downtown restaurants and bars/nightclubs. Every time I travel for business I stay at the Thunderbird Lodge.

Older motel dating from 40's or 50's. Updated somewhat. Indian run Patel property. 1950's vintage coil wall heater did not work. A/C unit (knobs missing) was not needed. Had a black frig and a small white microwave. Queen sized bed, room larger than Motel 6, but below the quality of Motel 6. Has a downtown location (expect sirens, etc.) Remodeling work in bathroom (tile, plumbing) was not professional done. Wife hated the lumpy bed. Has a tube type TV. Two burnt out bulbs in bathroom. Not informed of continental breakfast or free Wi-Fi on checkin. Remember to ask. Breakfast was bananas, apples and small pastry sealed in plastic.

Room Tip: Ask for room away from busy streets

Great value, but NOISY because of its' location, and moldy smelling non-smoking room. Motel is next to loud train station, police station (heard 4 sirens), and hospital with medic helicopter landing pad on roof (heard at least 2 helicopters) -- VERY LOUD!! At two different times we saw 2 men digging through the dumpster in motel parking lot. Our non-smoking room smelled "musty" and old. Room was also poorly lit - needs more light fixtures - 2 light bulbs needed replaced. Next time we'll pay a bit more for cleanliness, quiet, and a greater feeling of safety.
