“Not intimate, BUT has something for everyone.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

I read about this place when I was looking for a place for a romantic wedding. While I'm glad I didn't choose this hotel for our wedding (too big and not intimate enough), I glad I had a chance to stay here. There really is something for everyone. The main pool has activities for kids and a slide, yet adults looking for that quiet, relaxing pool-side experience can always check out the Cielo adult pool where only those 18+ are allowed to hangout. The property has a nice golf course and offers lessons (even for women). There are daily fitness classes and happy hours. The shop has great name brands: Tory Burch and Diane Von Furstenberg.

4 restaurants on location-Nelson's is a cool lowkey spot. The spa is beautiful but very pricey $190 for a 60 min treatment (ouch!), but the spa has it's own very quiet relaxation pool.

Rooms are comfortable, well sized and have either a patio or balcony. Villas are also available as part of the property to rent pr buy. The rooms are simple, no fancy decor but they have a nice sized tub, seperate shower, closed-off toilet, desk, full length mirror, coffee maker, etc. and provide turndown service. I just expected a more romantic room.

The location is beautiful. Looks out over the rugged CA coast. No beach here for swimming, but the pools are great for that.

Service has been very good. Friendly and efficient and quick to make recommendations when asked.

Check-in still needs some work. We had our bags out of the car before anyone even offered to help, and while they do offer you a bottle of water or sparkling upon check-in, they don't walk you to your room and explain the amenities of the property like you would receive if staying at a typical 5* resort. Also, Be aware that check in is late: 4pm. And if you plan to eat at their signature restaurant Mar'Sel, make a reservation ahead of time or they might be fully booked.

This property was packed when we stayed here. A ton of families and groups. If you want privacy and intimacy, this is not the right vacation resort for you.

Love this place. We live 10 mins away and go for lunch or dinner or one night. The adult pool on weekends in summer is great- good DJ with adult music (no crazy club music). Golf here is reasonable and a two hour event. Nelson's on thurs fri and sat has live music in summer. Lots of fun.

The Terranea is a beautiful resort overlooking the Pacific, a rare find in LA. The design team thought of everything - it is laid out beautifully, plenty of dining options, countless perfect spots to sit in comfort and beauty. Rooms are big enough, well appointed and stocked, clean and beautiful. But mostly, this place gets customer service. Check-in is easy and smooth, enhanced by their offer of champagne or bottled water. We found our room easily but as we were moving in the people in the room next door showed up with a huge dog. Having pet allergies I panicked and returned to front desk to ask for a room away from pets. Front desk staff could not have been nicer and more professional - she offered us a room on top floor away from pets, along with another glass of champagne or water! Our meals here were great, including weekend pancakes at Sea Beans, still serving at 11. Fitness room is clean and lovely. At Terranea we truly felt pampered and treated like welcomed guests. Only negative was the music others have noted at adult pool - the blaring disco music makes relaxing in such an otherwise lovely spot impossible. But we will definitely be back!

Room Tip: Beware of pet friendly rooms and ask what you need - they are very accommodating. Even our "re...

We stayed at The Terranea Resort for two weeks in July and had a great time. We'd booked and prepayed directly through the owner of the condo and there was some mix up when we checked in expecting to have a full kitchen, washer/drier and fireplace and that "Villa" had been rented already. Since we booked directly through the owner there was little that the staff at Terranea could do to correct what we'd been promised, but they went to great lengths to try and make our stay a very pleasant one. I wish I could remember both the names of the managerial staff that we dealt with, but memory fails me. I do remember the Manager, Mr. Monsanto helping us greatly at check in. There was a woman Manager who we spoke to on another occasion who was equally as helpful. We've been to Redondo and Palos Verdes before for vacation. We were a bit surprised that the drive from Redondo to Rancho Palos Verdes was a further distance/drive than we had anticipated. Driving briskly, it will still take you at least 15 minutes to get from Terranea in Rancho Palos Verdes to neighboring Redondo Beach. It's located on a beautiful property and the views are spectacular. After hours there isn't as much to do locally (compared to other beach communities) if you're expecting any type of night life nearby. There is a Starbuck's about 2miles down the street in a small strip mall, but that's pretty much it. There are several restaurants on site and the food is quite tasty. We had a nice secluded and private balcony that we enjoyed spending evenings on. You'd never imagine that this level of peace and quiet is attainable within an hours drive on surface streets of LAX.

We stayed in the main building and while we had an ocean view we were right by the family pool so there were a lot of screeching of children. I suspect most people like us spend little time in the room so this shouldn't be much of an issue but if you plan to spend time in the room or sleep late you might want to request a room on the other side. The room was a good size with a nice balcony that had some chairs and a side table.

We dined at Catalina Grill and Nelson's. I actually thought Catalina had better food, but Nelson's has great ocean views. They also smartly put up glass 'walls' which keeps the wind from being an issue. The fitness center is ample and allows for a good workout but if you prefer there is a running trail as well.

We spent 2 days at the adult pool. The adult pool also has the glass walls which keeps it mostly warm. There is a bar with lounge chair service. On Saturday there was a DJ and the crowd was, well it was what you expect in so-cal: lots of plastic surgery and people who think they are the hottest thing out there. I felt a bit like I was in South Beach. On Sunday the vibe was much better with music playing but people seeking sun rather than seeking to be seen.

The staff was excellent. The grounds were beautiful. I wouldn't necessarily seek this out as a vacation but if I was coming to the area I would absolutely stay here.

It's not marineland anymore. A beautiful 5 star resort. I grew up in the area and love returning to my parents home. This is a fabulous resort. The views are amazing, the staff is terrific, food is not stellar, but the location makes up for that.

Yes! You can relax in Los Angeles. The Terranea experience was great for relaxing and being pampered. Too bad we didn't have more time. The Spa and Fitness Center allow you to continue your exercise program and complimentary classes let you try new things.
