“Absolutely beautiful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2012 via mobile

We stayed in one of the bungalows and they were incredible. They have a kitchen living room combination, with a fireplace, huge bedroom, two baths and an amazing patio with a fire pit. From the minute you arrive at this resort it is first class service. There are plenty of places to sit and enjoy the amazing views, the restaurants had great food and service and the grounds had beautiful flowers and foliage everywhere. We walked all along the coast to the lighthouse and museum and to the golf course in the other direction. I cannot say enough good things about this resort. If you want an incredible and romantic place to visit, this it it.

This resort and the grounds are amazing -- you feel like you are on an island of paradise. It is remote to get to and a $70 cab ride from Long Beach Airport - also had an issue with the concierge desk i set up a cab for the trip back and they spelled my name incorrectly and the door staff gave the cab away -- so the place is amazing but the staff needs some work.

Room Tip: Rooms are set that they have beautiful ocean views amazing view of dolphins and whales too How eve...

I spent two nights at The Terranea as part of a Conde Nast Traveler summit for Top Travel Specialists. The Terranea excelled in every way: design, a wonderful setting, beautiful rooms, superb service with a staff that never fails to say "hello" and a beautiful setting along the California coast. I have been raving about it every since. Certainly, a top resort in every way!

Room Tip: Very easy to rent a car a drive from LAX. Taking the more scenice coastal routes, even with some det...

The views at Terranea are extraordinary. The walking paths are delightful and I enjoyed my stay. Pool area is great and the restaurants offer decent food with great views.

Downside: the resort is HUGE, so make sure you get a room near the lobby. I walked forever to get to mine.

We so did not want to leave. Everything was perfect. Spectacular natural beauty, outstanding service, fabulous food, superb service, delightful music in the piano bar and the most comfortable bed ever. We will return often!

Room Tip: Spend a little more for the ocean view - well worth itt!

My husband and I live in West Hollywood, California and typically go down to the Surf and Sand or The Montage in Laguna Beach or up to Bacara in Santa Barbara when we want to get away for a long weekend in a seaside resort in Southern California. Looking to avoid a long drive during rush hour on Friday afternoon, we decided to try Terranea. We were pleasantly surprised with the convenience and thoroughly impressed with the resort. It took us less than an hour to get there at 2p on Friday, and even less to return home on Sunday afternoon. Yet despite the close proximity, the resort is a world away from Los Angeles.

The resort itself is handsome and well-built, and the guest rooms are large, light and airy. The property is spacious and despite its large number of guest rooms, it never feels crowded. Each of the three pools (main, adult and spa) provide a different experience, and are very well designed for their intended guest. The restaurants offer a respectable range of food offerings. I highly recommend Mar'sel, the property's signature restaurant, as well as the more casual Nelson's (located cliff-side) and The Grill (located poolside). I would recommend skipping Catalina's, another poolside restaurant. This restaurant is clearly designed for buffets, and our dinner, which surprisingly cost the same as Mar'sel, was not worth the money. I would also encourage management to make more of the Mar'sel wine list available to the property's other restaurants, whose lists could use more thought and selection.

We very much enjoyed our short time at this beautiful resort and we look forward to returning soon and often. It is worth mentioning, though, that it would be reason enough to go to Terranea to thank the developers for returning this land to its exquisite natural beauty. The resort is built on the site of the concrete monstrosity that was Marineland, a tourist attraction which closed in the early 1980s and remained a blight on one of the most beautiful California coastlines until Terranea opened a few years ago.

Room Tip: Rooms on the west side overlooking the bungalows and spa enjoy complete serenity; rooms on the east...
