“Great Resort- Excellent Service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2011

We stayed at Terranea in August for 2 nights for my husband's birthday. We have 3 kids ages, 7, 5 and 1. This is an excellent family resort right here in SoCal.

The rooms (we had Oceanview adjoining) were very nice. My only complaint would be the view was not as great as I would have expected. Yes, we could see the Ocean but the resort is set back so its not a great view of it. They were really nice and modern though.

The family pool was awesome. Our 5 and 7 year olds went on the waterslide about 100 times and our baby loved the splash zone (sprinklers coming up from the ground). There is also a sandy play area. The pool staff were all very nice and there were plenty of chairs and clean towels. The first day we arrived in the afternoon and we found enough chairs right by the waterslide. A relief to not have the "chair game" where you have to stake your claim at 7am for the day.

We walked down to the beach each day. It is beautiful (although not swimmable). We enjoyed walking out on the rocks and watching the waves. We also took a "family hike" along the trail, which was really nice.

The food was great, but expensive. I guess it is to be expected at this type of resort but there are really no alternatives because it is in a secluded location (so be prepared). The breakfast buffet was particularly expensive. My husband and I ordered a la carte and let the kids do the buffet because it is so much easier for them.

Lots of stuff for families to do here. We only stayed for 2 nights so we did not utlize the kids club (so I can't comment on that). We loved the smores by the pool in the evenings. The kids had lots of fun roasting marshmallows over the firepit.

Overall, the staff was excellent. Everyone we encountered was VERY nice and went out of their way to help us. We had a great time and highly recommend Terranea.

This is a friendly classy place. The customer service at this hotel/resort is exceptional. Everyone from the valet to the bellman greet you with a good morning. All of their food venues are very good. Nelson's is a casual dining area which is right on the cliff about the Pacific Ocean. Its filled with Llyod Bridges memorabilia from the Sea Hunt TV series from the late 1950's. This Resort is on the site of Marineland of the Pacific that closed in the late 1980's. The developer did an exceptional job of integrating the resort into the surrounding coastal ecosystem. This property has something for families as well as couples. Adult's only pool and exceptional spa and work out area. My wife and I were here on a corporate retreat and intend to return for a "nice" weekend of hiking, whale watching and relaxing next to the beautiful Pacific ocean.

Room Tip: The one bedroom suites are all ocean views. Because this property is on a point you can either have...

From check in to check out everything was well done. This is a top flight property run by a top flight staff. I don't mind paying top dollar for quality and service when it's this well done.

My stay was part of a business seminar so I hadn't chosen the venue myself, but I was thrilled that the organisors had. The facilities are superb, the rooms, the restaurants, the pools, the spa, the grounds, everything.
I particularly enjoyed the adults only pool where you can swim and relax withoput the kids playing nearby.
The local area is great to explore with walks around the coast a joy as well.

Room Tip: Rooms with a view over the ocen are a must!

We decided to spend one night at Terranea after we were invited to a kids birthday party at the Terranea pool. The place is beautiful, elegant, classy and yet, still welcoming for families with kids. We stayed in a casita room and we couldn't have asked for a more private and quiet place to relax after a long day at the pool. The pool was so fun with so much for the kids to do...a waterslide, an area where water spouts out of the ground, sand with sand toys. Never thought to have a kids birthday party at a hotel pool, but it was a perfect place with a couple of reserved cabanas, hotel staff led scavenger hunt, water balloon games, and snow cones for everyone. We had dinner at Nelson's (on the grounds) and although it has a small menu, the food portion was large and yummy! The grounds are spacious with lots of trails to walk/run overlooking the ocean. My husband and I are excited to come back again with our kids. We told each other that if there's ever a year where we can't make it to Maui, we'll be coming here.

Room Tip: There are 6 rooms in a casita. If you are traveling in a large group or withe multiple families/coup...

I had the pleasure of staying at the Terranea Resort for 2 nights in October 2010.

The hotel is absolutely gorgeous. It's on the water (with a small beach), but one of the best features of it is, you can watch the sun rise and set on the water.

The hotel has your choice of places to stay: rooms, suites, condos or bungalows. I love the colors they have in all of the rooms. It's very warm and inviting. The bed was very comfortable & the bathrooms were roomy. I think every room has an ocean view.

There is a golf course on property and Trump's golf course is down the road. Each afternoon, the dolphins come in so close you feel you can touch them.

If you like to sit in front of a fire at night, they have a bunch of fire pits and fireplaces throughout the property.

Stayed here for a wedding and wow, what a place. It's 5 star in my opinion. Excellent restaurants, Sea Beans is a wonderful little place and great rooms. My only minor complaint was we had booked a 3 bedroom casita but it was really 2 'hotel room' type rooms and a 'condo' type room and only 1 of the 'hotel room' rooms had a connecting door to the condo. A bit strange. Free wireless internet throughout the resort, yet they charge for parking.
Overall a great place for a long weekend to get away from it all and relax in style. 40 mins from LAX and 10 mins from Trump National golf, which reminds me, the 9 hole par 3 is great, albeit a little overpriced for what it is.
