“Hotel Good, Spa....Maybe”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2013

I struggle with how to re-review Rancho after my second visit. Hotel and spa were integral for my couples retreat so one affects the other. I booked a Spa Package that included (2) $50 spa vouchers. When you pre-book a spa service with your reservation its only $99. However these cannot be combined- but it doesn't say that anywhere. Accomodations were attempted via a spa visit voucher for the next day but we were leaving. There were additional problems with our bill. While Juan and the other masseuse were great and I like the spa- I'd hesitate to return without a contract and a calculator. (I kid; sort of).
That said- at checkout I was pretty frustrated and mentioned that there were problems with the package. Imagine my surprise when with little more than a mild complaint that the cost difference was immediately removed from my (hotel) bill. That and my rate had been lowered prior to my even arriving. The hotel is clean, well maintained and I enjoyed my stay. The adult pool is great (please don't bring your children there parents; you have all of Splashtopia and an entire kids pool. I don't care how good you think your kids are). It was nice to listen to the jazz band at Blue Ember while lounging. Overall a nice couples retreat even though its so family driven. Therefore 4 stars even with the package difficulties as I feel the HOTEL took care of it.. And plenty of nice restaurants within an easy 10 minute drive.

Room Tip: If you're a light sleeper request an upstairs room. Though the door and walls are very well insu...

This was a working vacation for me and my girlfriend. The center area near the pool is very loud so we requested a room along the golf course. Very quite and peaceful. The rooms are nicely sized and the bathrooms were about average size. Great service and they provided us with a fridge upon request.

Highly recommend!

Room Tip: Get an outer location along the golf course for a quite room. If you stay by the pool, it will be L...

Upon checking out, I noticed everyone checking out was upset as there were charges on their bills that they weren't notified of on booking. BEWARE. This is a 3 star resort with 1 star service. The food from the catering department was only average. In the summer at 122 degrees, Palm Springs is a place to avoid.

This was the best experience I have ever had! Our rooms were fancy and clean. The rooms pillows and blankets were made of feathers from the inside and we slept like a baby! Our room was a double bed vista room and It was Beautiful, we had a Beautiful View and it was only a couple of steps away from Splashtopia, but in the Vista rooms you dont hear people screaming, they had alot of privacy in the rooms and they all had a little backyard with a view. Room service was also very good. The main pool was very fun! They have waittress come and take your order, that way you could be in the pool and the waitress will bring you the food, they are all over the water Park. The Main pool opens at 8Am and Closes at 10 Pm. Splastopia was Awesome they have the best waterslides Ever! They have a artificial beach! They have a lazy river where you sit on a tube and it goes in circles! they also have places where you could get wet and if you go to the beach or to some pools they have like showers at the beach (not a actual shower were you put on shampoo and conditioner) We got a summer family get away package and it included 50 dollars worth of food each day and it also came with 2 tubes to the lazy river. The spa is wonderful! my skin looks perfect! The golfing is very fun! BluEmber was delicious it was so good! It was So fun that I didnt want to Leave!! It was something that I will always remember !!!

Room Tip: do nit pick the pool side rooms because All you hear is screaming kids from 8 Am to 10Pm, I loved th...

We have been coming to this resort for the past 6 years. We always had a wonderful experience. This time was different. The rooms - not that clean. When we checked in there was no toilet paper in room. Bathroom did not feel clean. Floor was dirty. Burn marks in the rug. There was trash in the front and back porches. None of the ice machines worked. We called for three days.
The pool was fun. The food at the pool overpriced but good. BluEmber restaurant was good.
The Manager at the front desk didn't seem to care about the room quality.
The resort is starting to look tired. You get the feeling that management doesn't really care.

Dear teewolfe26,

Thank you for the feedback regarding your recent stay. Coming from a guest who has been visiting us for many years, we take this information especially seriously. In this case, you were not met with the prompt and immediate service you've been used to in the past - and we apologize for this. We do hope you'll allow us the opportunity to regain your trust; I've sent you a message with a direct contact to speak with regarding any future stays. Contrary to your recent experience, we do care very much about each and every individual's stay, from guest service, to room cleanliness, and our resort's appearance. We appreciate the time you've taken to share these details with us and thank you for your many years of business!

Sincerely,
Rancho Las Palmas Resort & Spa

This was our second visit to Rancho Las Palmas and we were equally as pleased. We checked in a tad early with friends (in another room) and the agent asked if we wanted to be closer together. We were upgraded from a Vista Room to a Pool View which was awesome!

Splashtopia is of course the hit of the trip. There was plenty of intertubes for the Lazy River pretty much all the time. It does get crowded so late afternoon is a great time to get in there. With smaller kids, I liked that they had plenty of lifeguards who were attentive. Note: Splashtopia doesn't open until 10am but you can enjoy the regular pool (only 4 feet deep which is great for kids) which opens at 8am.

Some good restaurant choices across the street but better to drive but you could walk.

Dear octwinmommy,

Thank you for your return visit and review of your recent stay! It is great to hear that everyone had a blast at Splashtopia, the most fun way to beat the heat with the family. We are happy to have been able to accommodate your request to move room locations, as well, and hope to always meet and exceed your needs. We'll certainly look forward to the next time we can welcome you back.

Service overall at the hotel was great!
Our rooms were clean & everything we hoped for. They had a beautiful view of the golf course.
We went with our kids ages 18, 8 & 6. There was something for all of them to do & enjoy.

The location is close to everything & right across the street from the Riverwalk. We were able to take our kids to a movie there.

The game room at the hotel was pretty fun & a nice addition.

The pool was amazing & our kids had a blast. The only bad thing is that the lazy river is connected to the toddler beach area. Both days they had to shut the lazy river down for the day. Once because a toddler pooped in it & then the next day because a child threw up in it. They really should have a separate toddler pool with it's own filtration system.

For restaurants we ate at the BluEmber twice.
We had breakfast there on Tuesday morning & had a fabulous experience. The food was great & so was the service.
We ate there again Tuesday night & had a horrible experience. When we first got there no one was at the front desk & we waited for a about 5 minutes before a lady came up & greeted us & told us it would be a 10 minute wait. We should have walked out right then, but we decided to wait. When we finally were taken to our table the place was pretty empty & we passed a bunch of empty tables along the way. The service was EXTREMELY slow. In fact a couple of times I had to get the bus boy to get our waiter for us just to refill our water & drinks. The food was okay, but for the price should have been a lot better. My husband ordered the scallops & there were literally 3 scallops on his plate. We have no problem paying a high price for good food & good service, but we really did not receive either & will never consider eating dinner there again.
For dinner I recommend The Cheesecake Factory right across the street at the Riverwalk or Outback Steakhouse right down the street.
Overall, we had a great stay & would recommend the hotel to friends with children.

Dear Taira H,

We appreciate the time you've taken to review your recent stay. It sounds like you took full advantage of all the great family amenities we have during the summer and we're glad they were a hit! We apologize for the inconsistency at bluEmber and will bring your dining experience to the attention of the management team. However, we are happy to hear that breakfast was enjoyed. It's great, too, that you explored The River and the perfect proximity we have for guests to easily enjoy their dining, theaters and shopping! Thank you for bringing your family here on your summer getaway. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back again in the future.

Sincerely,
Rancho Las Palmas Resort & Spa
