wPaid $84 / night recently for a nonsmoking room with 2 queen beds for 4 nights. This used to be one of the only hotels in Rancho Cucamonga, but now there is a lot of competition esp. near the Ontario Mills Mall (Holiday Inn Express, Marriott Townplace Suites, Homewood Suites, Hilton Garden In. n, etc) all of which are new within the last year and generally cost at least $100 / night, usually more. With a tight budget, this was the least expensive decent place I could find; the next one up was $129 / night.
My conclusion is that for $45 more per night, you get a lot more. The Heritage Inn is in need of many updates.
Problems / annoyances: 1. Wireless internet was broken when I arrived, fixed within 24 hours but the front desk staff kept giving me different incorrect passwords to log in. The signal is weak. 2. Beds are old, soft, squeaky with pilled blankets. 3. Magnetic room key cards demagnetize daily requiring a trip to the front desk to have it reprogrammed. 4. TV signal fuzzy with poor reception. 5. Bathroom with new toilet but other fixtures old, chips in the bathtub, broken drain, flimsy discount-store type shower rod. 6. Dated decor. 7. Dirty windows with dirty tracks, difficult to open. 8. Door security chain pulled out of wall. 9. No closet (has a small armoire). 10. Iron broken, dirty, and ironing board without pad. 11. Few electric outlets near bed. 12. Noisy air conditioning. 13. Dim lighting. 14. Noise: this was just bad luck I think, but there was a group of teenagers around the pool making a lot of noise just below my window for several hours, and later there was a large reception with loud guests outside until midnight. 15. No instructions on the outdated phone to use the voicemail. 16. 1980's style movie rental box next to phone. 17. Strange glow in the dark reflective panel along hallways. 18. Lots of rules and fines, none of which I incurred, but annoying nonetheless, like a $200 fine if you smoke in a nonsmoking room or bring in a pet, and you have to fill out a slip to sign out a towel for the pool, with a fine if you don't return it.
Strong points: Common areas and lobby are attractive. Front desk staff very friendly and tries to be helpful, albeit not able to do much about some of the problems except smile and say "I'm sorry." Plenty of parking. Good location right off of Foothill, convenient to lots of shopping and restaurants. Not so convenient to I-10 or I-15 because traffic is heavy around here and you hit many stoplights. Small refrigerator in room is nice. Plenty of towels. Nicer than usual breakfast with yogurt, fresh fruit, etc. Small but working coin laundry (2 washers, 2 dryers). Housekeeping friendly, does a good job of straightening and cleaning. Pleasant small pool and jacuzzi (weak jets).
Bottom line: Prices are high everywhere these days, but I still hoped for $84 / night that this place would be in better shape. It could have been a lot worse though, and I would stay here again if I couldn't afford more. Next time though I think I will pay the extra $30-50 / night to stay at one of the places near the Ontario Mills Mall that is newer and nicer.
