“Quiet inn, friendly owners”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2008

Please note: If I could give this Bed and breakfast a 4.5/5 I would. Everything was perfect and as expected about the feather bed, but I didn't give it a 5/5 because of the value. We paid $175/night the first night and got 15% off the next night, which is average for bed and breakfasts I've stayed at, but this being Quincy, and not a 5 diamond star place, it was a little on the steep side. I think $125-$150/night would have been more appropriate.

We stayed at the cottage in the back, which was victorian styled with a queen bed and day bed. There's a nice fireplace that you can adjust by dial and a claw foot tub in the bathroom. Great looking room- only drawback is that when it snows or rains you need to walk to the b&b.

The breakfast was awesome- the first day we had a hot chedder egg dish, blackberry smoothie, sausage and lemon cake. The 2nd day we had a peach smoothie, sausage, egg dish, orange and vanilla dish, and lemon cake. Could have been a bit more varied but it was really good so I didn't mind.

I love that this place is kid-friendly. We brought our 2-year-old toddler and had no problems. Having a separate cottage was great. The location of the feather bed is right in the middle of downtown so that's good. The owner, bob was very understanding about last minute cancellations (due to weather he said you can never know with quincy).

All in all I would definitely return!

The Feather Bed has a great location. It is on a quiet street with very short walks to some restaurants and the main street. We went there for the Fall colors and the courthouse trees right across the street were fantastic.

The house could use some care, but overall is comfortable. Parking was great.

They don't have a lot of bric a brac jamming the lobby. There are some comfortable sofas and chairs. There is a small TV with some movies. They also have a few books and lots of tour guides. They have tea and coffee along with popcorn available. Also they have homemade fudge and store bought cookies available at any time.

One thing I did like was the antique map chest where they could give you copies of maps or restaurant guides. They claimed ot have internet access, but I did not test that.

Our room was called the Morning Room and had a slanted ceiling. Entry to our room was from the outside and up a flight and a half of wooden stairs. The bed was fairly comfortable but the room and bathroom were cramped. There was a door to a deck on the roof that had some plastic furntiure.

The shower was over the bathtub and was very, very small. Amenities were basic, small soaps, shampoo. Towels were fair, not real plush.

Had an antique amoire as a closet. The room was fairly clean, but tired. It needed lots of updating, paint, carpet, decor.

Breakfast was not very good the day we tried it. The 'smoothie' was way too sweet, the house smoked sausage was rather bland, the quiche and coffee cake were blah too. After a few bites, we skipped over to a coffee shop and had some pancakes and eggs.

This place is the quinessential B&B: An old house more than 100 years old, no tvs in the rooms, friendly staff, etc, although all the rooms have private baths. The breakfasts that were served during my 4 night stay were very, very good (and this could possibly be a reason alone to stay at the Feather Bed). And the location can't be beat (one block from the main street that runs thru Quincy, so you can walk anywhere in Quincy).

The only problem is that the place is suffering from a lack of maintenance. While the inside of the rooms are ok, the outside is in serious need of a paint job. The outside steps leading to the rooms felt rickety, and I once felt I was going to fall thru one of the steps. However, I'd highly encourage anyone staying in the Quincy area to stay here.

We loved our stay at the Feather Bed Inn and will definitely go back again. The owner was very nice and accommodating. The breakfasts were superb and we ended up buying one of their cookbooks. Quincy is a quaint town with excellent dining choices to choose from.

The Feather Bed B & B is somewhere my husband and I always think of with fond memories and high hopes that we can soon return. Each room is beautifully decorated with antiques, claw foot tub (check with them as I don?t know if all amenities are the same for each room), and of course a fluffy bed. There is a separate reading/sitting area as well as desk for correspondence. We stay in Jenny?s Room. Each of the rooms have separate entrances from the main common area. They always have chocolate chip cookies and fudge available for a late night snack. Breakfast is beyond delicious. The owner makes his own homemade smoked sausages and wonderful smoothies. We recommend the Feather Bed in Quincy. Check out Moon?s restaurant for a wonderful meal as well.
