“Nicest B&B in the Area with the Best Hosts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2011

Look no farther than this B&B. Bill and Kay are great, they share their wine, the breakfasts are superb, the rooms well done. WiFi so you stay connected, numeros spots to sit outside and enjoy the mountain air. The house gets decorated at Halloween and Christmas, wow you can't believe what they do then. 3 good sized guestg rooms, each one is unique and well laid out.
Nice family room with a huge cast iron stove, TV, tons of movies. Food is great, Bill and Kay take care of you every way they can. If they tell you to try a certain restaurant, do it. They weed out the bad ones so you don't have to.
Stay here and be pleasantly surprised !!!

We stay in B&B's ALOT. Blair Sugar Pine is definitely among the best. The victorian house is absolutely gorgeous. The history is charming. The hosts are incredibly friendly and helpful. The attention to detail is the best (we loved the soap and candy on the pillow). The location is perfect (very easy walk to old town). The food was great and so were the other guests. AND it didn't have a ghost (a rarity for Placerville).

We stayed there for two nights and had such a wonderful time. The location is perfect with a short pleasant walk to Main St. The hosts were so friendly and gracious. Did I mention that the rooms are very charming? Plus, they were able to meet my special breakfast needs and the food was great. We would definitely go back!!

Was in town for 50th birthday party with collection of old friends. Chose Blair Sugar Pine Inn for its proximity to downtown Placervile, but also because it belonged to a family friend many years ago when still a private residence. William and Kay have done a fantastic job restoring and retaining the homey ambiance I remember from my visits nearly 40 years ago. I stayed in the Lotus room and was absolutely satisfied with the accomodations. I had complete privacy with a choice of several cozy public rooms, numerous patios and a broad front porch perfect for afternoon lazing. The Inn is one block from Downtown Placerville and its eclectic collection of modern and historical buildings. One nearby cafe has an actual mineshaft exiting from a back room! During my two day stay I visited nearby wineries, attended a party in Apple Hill and went swimming in a nearby wild river! I also walked mainstreet Hangtown taking a nostalgiac tour of my old haunts. Breakfast was very tasty with excellent coffee, a fritatta style omelet and fresh seasonal fruit. I enjoyed my visit immensely and would highly recommend this in to anyone travelling to, or through Placerville.

Blair Sugar Pine Bed and Breakfast is a lovely and relaxing place to get away from the world. William and Kay, the hosts, are wonderful and friendly people who go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and welcome. The breakfast is fantastic, the Garden Room a delight, and the wine is wonderful. This is a great weekend get-a-way that will refresh you.

My girlfriend and I stayed in the Garden Room for a night before we went rafting with friends on the South Fork of the American River and could not have had a better experience!

Having never stayed at a bed & breakfast, was not sure exactly what to expect, but having experienced the hospitality that the owners, William and Kay Steffen provided, not sure I would stay anywhere else on my next trip to Gold Country.

From the moment we arrived, William and Kay made us feel right at home, providing a tour of the house and menus of suggested restaurants that we could dine at for dinner.

The Garden Room was very nice; the bed was comfortable, and the decor -- though not exactly the modern, contemporary style of my own home -- actually added to the idyllic atmosphere of the B & B.

In the morning, we were treated to a wonderful breakfast and Kay was kind enough to provide a map with directions as to the fastest way to get to the launch point for the rafting trip.

All and all a very satisfying experience and it's almost a shame that we only stayed for one night. Very highly recommended to anyone staying in or near the Placerville area.

I liked Blair Sugar Pine so much that it was hard to leave. The owners are very friendly and helpful, and the property has many features designed to make it a pleasant place to visit. For instance, there are many private nooks inside and out, so even if it were fully booked I don't think it would feel crowded at all. The gardens are great.

The only drawback is the inn's proximity to the highway (hence fairly steady traffic noise), but the landscaping does much to minimize the effect, and you don't see the road at all. I heard no traffic from our room.

Highly recommended.
