We chose this hotel because it was pet-friendly and we were traveling with our labrador. The personnel (from the lobby desk to the gardeners) were very friendly & professional. The location is terrific and the photographic views from the garden are perfect for our travel album. There are many ways to access the beach area. For those that are in fairly decent health, the stairs from the garden pathway down to the beach are a great form of exercise. Otherwise; I would suggest accessing the beach from the pier area. Our room was a pet-friendly room which backed up to the freeway. I thought this might pose a noise problem but it didn't. The dog run was very nicely enclosed and maintained. However; it was also the patio area to your room and I could foreseeably see a problem of other peoples pets running into your room if you left the back door open. But hey.....if we didn't enjoy our pets (and others), why are we traveling with them??? The room itself was very cozy. The decor uplifting. The beds very comfortable. You may however want to bring your own pillow if you're used to sleeping with flatter pillows. The fireplace was nice ambiance and puts out the heat. This is great if it's cold outside. If it's not....there really isn't an adjustment to regulating the amount of heat so I don't see where one would use the fireplace on warmer days. (Our stay was at the end of October and the weather was perfect. No need for air and/or heat) The continental breakfast was awesome. I question those that complain about it. It is not meant to be a full restaurant type of breakfast. But, the choice you had was amazing....yogurt, bagels, danish, waffles, fruit, cereal, hard boiled eggs (really good idea by the way!), cottage cheese, juices, coffee. The pool area was rather small but nicely maintained. The spa a plus. The hours of use nice. The garden area was beautiful and had nice seating areas throughout it. The little bunny rabbits hopping around were a plus. I preferred the garden area that Cottage Inn had versus the lawn areas that the surrounding hotels had. My only "negative" would be the litter (cans/bottles) thrown in the shrubbery beyond the fence and the cigarette butts that inconsiderate smokers think they have a right to flick down anywhere. The towns nearby have pet-friendly stores which were nice. There are also enough attractions nearby to keep one happy....Monarch butterfly grove, horseback riding, atv's, kayaking, surfing etc...
