“Affordable, free breakfast and wifi and close to the beach”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

PROS:
The hotel is almost like a boutique hotel with a really nice, eccentric lobby. The free breakfast buffet is a nice plus and the menu changes daily- you can even bring food to your room if you prefer to eat there instead of the cafeteria like room they provide. We stayed in a 2 room suite, but I think they're all like that. One room has the couch that pulls out as bed with a small fridge and a sink and tv. The 2nd room has the 2 queen beds, a full bath but the sink is outside the bathroom, situated on the same counter top as where the tv sits- kinda strange but it's ok. Lots of parking in the back area and they provide towels in the swimming pool area.

CONS:
The beds were comfortable but the decor could use a little bit of upgrading. We didn't use the pull out bed because when we pulled it out, there were food scraps and hair that were obviously not cleaned out by the staff- that was gross and probably why I'm giving this place a 3 star. They should probably change the lightbulbs in the room because it had yellow light bulbs, y'know that ones that your great grandma used to have in her house. The lighting was awful, it made the room really dark. The swimming pool was small but it had two hot tubs.

We stayed for two nights on a business trip, and were quite pleased with our stay. We stayed in the "Executive King Suite", which had a surprisingly large sofa in the lounge area. The suite was in good order, and very clean.

The free breakfast is typical hotel breakfast food. Nothing special, but it is definitely a cut above the average for similarly priced hotels.

This hotel is definitely unique. It has at least two nice grassy courtyards, one of which has a fenced area for dogs. It has a small pool and hot tub, both of which were clean and well maintained. The room keys are mechanical punch cards, instead of electronic.

The downsides: We had a rattling ceiling fan in the bathroom. The free wifi was slow to the point of being completely useless; but to be fair it was a busy holiday weekend.

Overall, our stay was good. We will definitely consider this hotel again if we visit the area in the future.

We had an awful experience during our stay at Oxford Suites Pismo Beach California. It's pet friendly, and our room had fleas. We had multiple erroneous charges that we happenend to catch....we were charged $93.00 for laundry detergent, another unexplained debit for $100.00 and another for $84.00. The male staff member became confrontational when we inquired about these charges. The female staff member who made the errors acknowledged the mistake but never apologized. The manager was informed of the fleas, rudeness, and billing errors for which she stated she was embarassed and apologized. We were given $38.00 off of our bill for the fleas. Needless to say we cancelled all future reservations and will never go back to this hotel again.

The oxford hotel is an older suites establishment next to the 101 freeway. The room was really a two room suite with a small living room and separate bedroom. It was very clean and remodeled. There were flat sceen TV's in both the living and bedroom. The grounds and swimming pool were also very nice and well maintained. The Oxford has a happy hour with free beer and wine and a few small appetizers. The beer and wine was fine but the appetizers were gone early and were just average. They were also barbequing by the pool with burgers, quesadillas, etc. The Oxford is a very clean hotel good for a one or two night stay. The hotel is just down the street from the Pismo outlet mall. Being next to the freeway, it was quite noisy so be sure to request a room away from the freeway. We would stay there again if passing through the area.

We stayed here for two nights and loved it. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The free breakfast was great and there was a big variety of items to choose from. The evening gathering was nice as well. The hotel was full when we went - and it was a little loud outside the first night with some guests having a party - but inside it was very quiet and we did not hear them or the traffic on Hwy 101. Parking though can be a bit of a problem when the hotel is full. Because we did not get back to the hotel until late the first night - we had a hard time finding a place to park that was near our room. The parking lot though was very well lit. We have stayed here a few times before and have never been disappointed in the cleanliness of the rooms or with the staff. We love how they are pet friendly and on this latest trip there were a lot of guests with pets. The guests we came across were very friendly and everyone kept their pets under control. The hotel is located so close to the Pismo Outlet stores and to Price Street and the Pismo Pier.

The only drawback we had with the latest trip was the water pressure in the shower. They had two shower heads - one mounted and one hand held. The water pressure was very low unless you had it turned up to scalding hot. The mounted shower head could have used a good cleaning or replacement - but the hand held worked better. We used the hand held because of the better pressure but it made it harder to shower having to continuously hold the shower head since the holder was so low to be of any use. It was brought up to the front desk staff as we were leaving and they were very apologetic and said they would have maintenance check it out.

Other than the low water pressure in the shower - which was not enough of a problem to mess up our stay - our trip was great and we will definitely stay there again.

We spent 2 nights here during a week end which might explain the very lively atmosphere. The room was spacious and traveling with 4 people, it was good to have a separate living room for once.
We were a bit skeptic concerning the breakfast included in the price because we had seen some less than nourishing hotel "breakfasts" on our trip but this was a really pleasant surprise. We got a full warm breakfast including eggs, bacon, ham and oatmeal, and as much bread/bagels etc as we wanted. We felt pretty well-nourished and did not need to find an extra breakfast place. This was the first place where Dutch coffee (Douwe-Egberts) was served and my Dutch husband remarked it immediately ("wow, the coffee is really good!"). Another nice surprise was the free glasses of wine that are offered in the early evening, along with appetizers (salad, chips, salsa). This is offered in the bar area.
For lack of time we did not try the pool which is located in the middle of the building complex. It must be nice to hang around there in the garden, socialize and watch your kids playing, though.
The beach was in walking distance but it takes around 15 minutes, some of that along the highway. The outlet centers, restaurants and a supermarket are about 5 minutes away (on foot).
Staff at reception and restaurant/bar was very friendly and helpful. We were a bit disappointed with the California coast but at least we were staying in a good place which partly compensated the fact of fog and chilly weather.

Room Tip: If you are sensitive to bathroom noise (filling/emptying bathtub etc) it would be good to take a roo...

We stayed here for two nights midweek, on our way from LA to San Francisco. The Oxford Inn and Suites was well kept and staff were genuine and friendly. The breakfast portions were massive and tasty. It was reassuring to see the certificates on the wall from the local environmental health saying how clean the kitchens are.

The wifi was shockingly bad, considering how many people choose a hotel on the basis of free wifi.

It was nice to be able to walk to the shopping outlets where we picked out some clothes, but the main Pismo Beach is a junction away on the freeway. The hotel is family friendly.
