“Lovely Resort outside of Pismo”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2013

I took my wife here for our anniversary. When calling them I had mentioned why I was booking and upon arrival we found a bottle of wine in our room waiting for us....chilled. I booked a pool/ocean view room.

Our room overlooked the pool area and the ocean, but was more on the north end wing. This side gets less direct sunlight than the wing of rooms parallel to the beach. We were on the lowest level and probably would have preferred being on the upper level, but in truth the room and location was fine. All the rooms have patios with two chairs. The bed was very comfortable, however we did find the bathroom to be a little on the small size....more to the liking of European bathrooms. The shower was great....lots of water pressure and the lighting was perfect. My wife had no problem putting on her makeup.

I was a little surprised to find that they did not have an in-room safe....could have used that. Seating was adequate, comfortable wing chair with ottoman along with a short sofa.

I did find it a little noisy around the pool area at night, (sound carries a long way due to the winged layout of the rooms around the pool, but they close the pool down at 10:00 and by 10:05 it becomes very quiet.

The food in their restaurant is very good. We pre-purchased buffet coupons for the two nights we were there and was pleased that we did. Think this is your best value. Plenty to eat with a omelet bar.....made the way you want them. Bacon and Sausage was very good, along with fruit, cereals, mini-bagels, smoke salmon and lots of awesome muffins, etc.. Plenty to eat and many choices for everyone and the food is good. Oh....coffee and juices come with this as well. Think when you purchase the buffet certificate when making reservations it comes out to about $10.00 per person per day, but you should double check with the reservations clerk.

The hotel resort fee charges include valet parking. The guys are great and you can call from your room and within a minute, or two the car is waiting for you down stairs. The guys are always friendly and courteous.

We will certainly return to this cliff side resort!

Room Tip: Go for the pool/ocean view room and ask for something on the 4th or 5th (top) floor.

Nice enough hotel, communal areas were quite basic, rooms much better. Ours had a partial sea view and we got to see a beautiful sunset. The bed was huge and very comfy, the rest of the room was well furnished with a chaise and also another chair and table plus shutters on the windows making it feel like you we're by the sea. The bathroom however let the room down, very small, basic and in need of some updating. The location is great for people who may be doing the PCH drive as its close to the main roads and easy to find. There's not too much in the immediate local area so you'll need to drive or taxi for somewhere to eat which isn't ideal.

Room Tip: Worth paying that little extra for a sea view, great location!

Chris B ~ thank you for taking the time to write your review. I'm glad you found the room comfortable and enjoyed the ocean views. Although we're not in downtown Pismo Beach, like you say we are right off the highway, so it's just a quick 5 minute ride to Pismo or San Luis Obispo. I hope you had a chance to explore these towns. Thanks, Stephanie

As a former Californian, now living in a landlocked state, I came for a LA visit, but had to get up to the Central Coast for clear skies, crashing waves and ocean air. I picked The Cliffs Resort and was not disapointed. The room was clean, bright, the bed was very comfortable with good pillows.
The hotel offered wine tasting, the restaurant had outdoor seating which was perfect for the complimentary morning coffee. I enjoyed the stay and would come back.

Room Tip: My room faced north; which was okay, but I would want a room facing the ocean next time.

We stayed at the Cliffs while dropping our son at Cal Poly. What a beautiful location! I would highly recommend coming here for a relaxing break, as well as a great hotel to stay if you are also visiting/dropping kids at Cal Poly. I feel as if I have had a great vacation, as well as completing a new milestone in the life of our family! Service was great, and the rooms are clean and comfortable. I would probably request a room on the other side of the hotel next time, as the air conditioning units must have been to the side of us - which made it fairly noisy every night (right hand side of the hotel if you are standing in the parking lot). We will be back regularly!

Room Tip: I would pay the extra and upgrade to a full ocean view

Abbe L ~ Congratulations, what a bittersweet time for you and so proud as a parent! I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay with us. For the future, our Partial Ocean view rooms (which have a view from the balcony) are on the north side of the building and are farther down the hall ~ they tend to be the quietest rooms and have a great view toward Avila Beach. We look forward to seeing you again soon (Parent's Weekend at Cal Poly is coming up in Oct). Thanks, Stephanie

Stayed 2 x nights on road trip down Pacific Coast Highway. Hotel is on edge of town so can't easily walk/stroll into Pismo. Hotel is quite seaside-y, verging on being a little dated, however the room was large and comfortable with all necessary amenities and conveniences. We had a partial ocean view double queen although had requested a king- it was north-facing/side-on and in itself ok - we did request a move to an alternative room as we preferred the 1 x king bed rather than the 2 x queen beds, and our little balcony did not catch the sun (would have paid the upgrade fee) but the hotel was full and very busy (convention and wedding). Pool area is nice and relaxing and grounds/gardens well maintained and pretty. Food was god - ate at the bar restaurant one night and also lovely breakfast (peach & nutella pancakes..mmmmm...really yummy!! ).
Town of Pismo is ok with a pier and range of shops - however we drove to nearby Avila one evening as it had nicer feel to it and had a nice meal. Would recommend and would definitely consider staying here again no probs, albeit ensuring on getting ocean view king.

Room Tip: Choose front facing/ocean facing king bed

Kendo ~ thank you for taking the time to write your review. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay with us (and the peach & nutella pancakes)! However, I'm sorry we were not able to move you to a king bedded room. Avila Beach is a great town to relax in with some cute shops, wineries, restaurants, and of course the beach. We look forward to your next stay (in an ocean view room), Stephanie

I bought a groupon for this resort for Labor Day night...what a savvy move that turned out to be!! The resort is absolutely beautiful and the grounds and location are stunning. We upgraded our room to ocean view and were not disappointed ! When we arrived the valets were hopping! I assumed that it was guests checking out but it turns out there was an outdoor concert and BBQ planned for the area overlooking the ocean. We changed our clothes and got our camp chairs out of the car...sitting in the sun, listening to great music, we toasted and marveled how lucky we were!!! The front desk gentleman( older, Hispanic...so sorry to have forgotten his name!) was particularly helpful. I would HIGHLY recommend this hotel !!!!!

Room Tip: Upgrade to an ocean view!

yayagina ~ the perfect way to end the summer! We tell our guests about the concerts when they make reservations, but through groupon we don't receive any contact information until you arrive. What a nice suprise, I am so glad you enjoyed the Tyrone Wells show. We love Louie (at the Front Desk), I will be sure to pass on your compliment.
Hope to see you again soon, Stephanie

The hotel was extremely nice, very clean and relaxing.
When we first drove up we had a hard time finding parking and then we realized they have a complimentary valet service! That was a nice surprise. The valet helped us with our bags and were very friendly and polite.
The spa and pool was where we spent most of our time with our 3 year old daughter. The hotel was pretty classy, so I was kind of nervous people wouldn't want a 3 year old running around. However, my worries were alleviated, as there were very friendly people, other families (with other children) and we had a nice time! We will definitely return to this hotel.
The bathrooms were very well kept and all amenities we might need were there!

Room Tip: The room we had (without an ocean view) was very quiet and I didn't feel bad not having a view b...
