“Perfect night!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2013

I bought a groupon for this resort for Labor Day night...what a savvy move that turned out to be!! The resort is absolutely beautiful and the grounds and location are stunning. We upgraded our room to ocean view and were not disappointed ! When we arrived the valets were hopping! I assumed that it was guests checking out but it turns out there was an outdoor concert and BBQ planned for the area overlooking the ocean. We changed our clothes and got our camp chairs out of the car...sitting in the sun, listening to great music, we toasted and marveled how lucky we were!!! The front desk gentleman( older, Hispanic...so sorry to have forgotten his name!) was particularly helpful. I would HIGHLY recommend this hotel !!!!!

Room Tip: Upgrade to an ocean view!

yayagina ~ the perfect way to end the summer! We tell our guests about the concerts when they make reservations, but through groupon we don't receive any contact information until you arrive. What a nice suprise, I am so glad you enjoyed the Tyrone Wells show. We love Louie (at the Front Desk), I will be sure to pass on your compliment.
Hope to see you again soon, Stephanie

The hotel was extremely nice, very clean and relaxing.
When we first drove up we had a hard time finding parking and then we realized they have a complimentary valet service! That was a nice surprise. The valet helped us with our bags and were very friendly and polite.
The spa and pool was where we spent most of our time with our 3 year old daughter. The hotel was pretty classy, so I was kind of nervous people wouldn't want a 3 year old running around. However, my worries were alleviated, as there were very friendly people, other families (with other children) and we had a nice time! We will definitely return to this hotel.
The bathrooms were very well kept and all amenities we might need were there!

Room Tip: The room we had (without an ocean view) was very quiet and I didn't feel bad not having a view b...

Stayed 3 days with our 2 dogs, great oceanfront hotel with access to small beach. Great amenities, fabulous fresh baked cookies at check-in, and good happy hour. Perfect location to watch the sunset. Loved that pet friendly rooms had tile floors and they brought us dog beds, bowls, treats, frisbee and doggy menu! Parking is easy and free! Short distance to Morro Bay, Avila Beach and San Luis Obispo. They have a decent size pool and hot tub and the grounds are beautiful. Bellmen and front desk staff were nice and helpful with tips on what to do/where to eat in the area. Don't miss the cinnamon rolls...fresh baked, gooey, to die for just a short drive away.

Room Tip: Stayed in room 141, had sliding door leading out to path to beach access. Perfect for dogs and quiet...

10sProWife, thank your for your kind review. It sounds like you and your pups had plenty of time to explore our local beaches, hopefully their new frisbee got a lot of use! I'm glad to hear our staff took good care of you and that you enjoyed Hannah's fresh baked cookies at check in. We are also fans of Old West Cinnamon Rolls, but you'll have to try Hannah's cinnamon rolls with bacon crumbles next time! Take care, Stephanie

When you pay top dollar to be by a Southern California beach, you have high expectations. Unfortunately, our expectations for The Cliffs were not met at all.

When we first arrived, the valet was stacked back about 8 cars so we sat in our car for 20 to 30 minutes just for valet. Apparently, the buffet in the restaurant is very popular and there can be events on the cliffs that pack the area and therefore hotel guests simply have to suffer the fact that there is no parking and the valet line is ridiculously long.

After another 20 minute wait for check-in, we got to our room and it was 80 degrees and stuffy. We turned the air conditioning down lower than the 72 it was already set at, knowing that it must not be working, and thought we'd give it a chance. After an hour, there was no change in the temperature. Two calls to the front desk and three visits by maintenance later, we were given a FAN for our room to point at the bed to keep us cool at night!! Are you kidding me? The only room they would switch us to, if we wanted that, did not have a view of the ocean at all so we just had to grin and bear it in our hot, muggy room.

There was no suction fan in the bathroom - ridiculous. The sliding panels in front of the sliding glass windows that led to the balcony would come off track easily. Both robes had belt loops that were not functional, ripped away on one side. There was no in-room safe for valuables. The 2nd day of our visit, both our door keys wouldn't work so we had to go down to the front desk and get them re-programmed. Also on the 2nd day, the elevator for our side of the building didn't work so we had to walk to the FAR end of the other side of the hotel to access an elevator.

We went down to the gym and found both treadmills not working. We had maintenance come down to check it out. They went to reset the breaker - which didn't work either. They never did get it fixed and never notified us whether they had or not.

We were very disappointed :(

Room Tip: You need to be on the third floor or higher to get an ocean view of any kind.

GuessZooBakersfield, it sounds like you were visiting us during our Labor Day backyard music event. We try to make it very clear to our arriving guests the impact that this has, but regardless, I am very sorry for your wait (both inside and outside) and the inconvenience. Please contact us directly (ask for Haydee or Elise) so we can discuss your stay. That was the last of our shows for the year and we would love the opportunity to not only meet but exceed your expectations. Thank you, Stephanie

This hotel was exactly what we were looking for! We live in San Jose but had guests coming from Canada and they wanted to see the beach. We spent the day driving down the coast, stopped in Carmel and Pebble Beach, went through Big Sur and then off to the hotel. When we arrived, the free valet service was available. We wanted to get some food so they gave us names of some restaurants. They did not merely just tell us to eat at the Marisol attached to the hotel. They even took our luggage up to the rooms while we were gone. When we arrived in our rooms, they were wonderful. The beds were comfortable, the pillows plush. We wanted pedicures the following day, and they gave us names and numbers of six places. One of the Valets even called his wife to ask her the name of the place she used. Everyone was very friendly. We ate at the Marisol restaurant, and though the prices were slightly high there, definitely worth the quality. The last night there we were able to book a table on the patio and watch the sun go down. They even provided blankets for when things cooled down. The pool was good, though on the small side. The service at the pool was great. It wasn't walking distance to the beach, but the views made it all worthwhile. I cannot say enough good things. We stayed during a low time so the prices were very cheap ($129 a night), but well worth more. We would be willing to pay 250 a night for such great service. One thing is that the spa does not offer pedicures, which would have given them a perfect rating.

Maggie P, we're honored that you brought your guests to our hotel for their California beach experience. I'm so glad that you were well taken care of by our staff, and that they were helpful in suggesting local attractions and businesses. Your last night, enjoying the sun set over the ocean from the patio sounds like the perfect cap to your trip. Thank you, Stephanie

My husband and two young daughters stayed at the resort for one night after our camping trip to Yosemite last week. I looked at the reviews and booked a room with two queens with Booking.com a week before. We arrived right at check in time but were told our room would not be ready for "a little while" because they were inspecting the rooms after the cleaning crew. So we decided to explore the resort while we waited. After an hour, I asked Heather Rudolph at the front desk how much longer because we just wanted to check in and start relaxing by the pool...we were only there for the one night and wanted to enjoy it! She explained again why it was so long and said she would call asap. So we got the girls in their bathing suits and headed for the pool. I got a glass of wine with complimentary coupon given to us and within 15 minutes, Heather was meeting me at the pool to tell me she upgraded us to a suite on the first floor with a walkout to the grass/beach access area. She didn't want us to wait any longer. She also sent up chocolate chip cookies for the girls and a card apologizing. I give this resort 5 stars because of Heather and because it truly is a beautiful resort. The suite we received was amazing. Tile floors, marble bathroom and tub, slippers, robes, comfortable beds and pillows, and a gorgeous view of the ocean!

Annie Z ~ thank you for choosing our hotel to top off your camping trip. I'm sorry you had to wait for the room, but I'm so glad Heather was able to take care of you and your family. I know you were just with us overnight, so I'm glad you were able to enjoy it to the fullest and luxuriate in a suite! We hope to see you again soon, Stephanie

We happened upon this treasure near the sea. The outside of the hotel does not reflect the quiet beauty of the resort. We could have stayed here for a week. Tranquil but chic. The beach was a bit difficult to get to but once there provided a lovely walk. Dinner overlooking the Pacific was memorable

AliceR787 ~ I'm so glad you found our hotel to be a tranquil retreat! Yes, there is a staircase down to the beach, but once there it is a hidden treasure with great tidepools. We look forward to your next stay. Thank you, Stephanie.
