This hotel was just average.
The only thing special about this place is the veiw and the path leading down to the cove beach.
My little fridg didn't keep anything cold. My room smelt like...? mold?....I'm still not sure what the smell was. You can hear the freeway noise in your room and on the balcony, so that ruins the view. The first thing I noticed about this place was the smell from either the birds or the ocean.
The staff was not willing to do any more then they had to for you. It was real obvious when ever I asked for something that I was bothering them.
Over all I would not stay here again.

What a wonderful surprise this hotel was. We loved it! When we were planning our trip to Pismo Beach I was disappointed to find out that my usually location at the Kon Tiki Inn was sold out so I started researching other hotels in the area. After much reading I decided on this hotel and hoped for the best.

We arrived early at 1:30 and were immediately told that our room was ready. The women at the front counter were both very polite. I nice change from the Kon Tiki Inn where everyone who works there is extremely rude.

The view from our room took our breath away. BEAUTIFUL. It was better than the Kon Tki Inn. It was more beautiful and dramatic. While you will find numerous hotels close to the ocean, this is very close and gorgeous. We were facing a cave with huge rocks with lots and lots of sea birds and pelicans living there.

We paid a little extra for the ocean front room. With an AAA discount we still paid $278 a night. Higher than others have written here but in my opinion still worth veery cent. We slept with the balcony door open since we were staying on the 2nd floor so we could hear the ocean all night.

Our room had 2-queen size beds, a small frig and a microwave oven. The bathroom is older but was fine. There were numerous weddings throughout the weekend right outside our window. It is obviously the choice of many to marry on theses grounds so that should give you an idea of the beauty that can be found here.

While in Pismo Beach we very enjoyed eating at The Cracked crab and had a great breakfast at the Honeymoon Café. We also had a lovely time at the Edna Valley Winery only 7 miles away.

We look forward it returning to this hotel and fabulous view!

We attended an orientation for Cal Poly for our son and stayed a little further south. This was a great choice. The rooms were big and the beds comfortable. The views were fantastic! Would definitely stay again.

Stayed here one night as our family of three enjoyed a trip down Highway 1 from San Francisco to Southern CA. Pismo Beach was one of our planned stops, so we had reserved a room for one night. The Best Western website would not allow us to book a room with a King Bed with three people, but I called in and inquired about roll-away beds and was able to make this work for us.

Check-in was not quick, but was friendly. The person checking us in had on a name tag which indicated she was a front desk supervisor or manager but she was not familiar with how to process our payment of a BW Travel Card. However, she politely asked for our patience and placed a call to someone for help, then took care of everything. While I was still waiting at the front desk, I mentioned we had the need for a roll-away bed, and she asked a passing staff member to take it to our room. It was there by the time we arrived.

The hotel lobby had signs indicating that the property is in the midst of renovation and our room appeared to have been recently completed. The paint, carpet and linens all looked very fresh and the room smelled good. The accommodations were spacious and included a king bed with two night stands, a small table with two wooden arm chairs, a TV armoire and a small desk with rolling chair. There is also a large kitchenette counter with bar-sized sink, mini fridge and microwave, plus a coffee maker. There was plenty of space to set out our cooler and the few snack items we'd brought along.

We had a balcony large enough for two arm chairs and a small glass-top table. There is a beautiful view from every room, from what I could see, and even though we were on the first floor, we were still elevated a bit from the walkway. Noise from the highway was not a problem, however, we did have some noise coming through the walls (or connecting door) from the neighbors who were traveling with a young child.

The location may not be the best. You cannot easily walk into town from this property, so this property will be best for guests who can/will be willing to drive a little. The views are worth it, though.

The complimentary breakfast will be a bit of a joke for us for awhile. The room it is held in is so small that they actually had the toaster outside by the pool! There were the usual free breakfast offerings- cereals, bread for toasting, yogurt, whole fruits, coffee and juice. It was adequate, but very, very cramped. If the weather was not nice enough for several people to sit outside, it would not have worked for the volume of guests at all.

It should also be mentioned that at this time, the pool is completely drained for refurbishment. If swimming in the pool is important, one should inquire as to its status prior to booking.

We enjoyed our stay and would choose this hotel again if in the area.

The shelter cove is great place to get away from Los Angeles. The staff is awesome the view, well it's amazing even though it was a overcast day. Plus, the nice little guezbo on the cliff is really nice. The room itself very clean with refrigertor, cable, & free wireless which comes in handy doing this review as we speak. Overall, if you need to get away or spend time with your better half please check out the Shelter Cove. It's worth the price and the location is great!

  • Liked — Free wireless internet, cable, very clean, & refrigerator to store drinks.
  • Disliked — Maybe a bigger tub and have allowed pets..
