“Best BBQ on the Central Coast”

Mo's Smokehouse BBQ

While visiting family in Pismo over the 2007 Christmas Holiday we met at Mo's for lunch. The ribs were tender, the slaw fresh and the beans spicy. My neice had the BBQ chicken sandwich which was served with the slaw on top. She was a little unsure of the look but tasted it and loved it. I ended up putting it on my pulled pork. What an idea. It was great. The onion rings were big, crunchy and not at all greasy. They have one in Socal I am going to try. It would be worth the drive.

Read about Mo's and after coming to Pismo for years gave it a try. Long lines so it must be good right? Wrong. Tried the combo full slab ribs which is a full slab with some of each type of Mo's ribs and sauces. Sadly, they all tasted the same. The ribs appeared and tasted like boiled pork with little or no smoke flavor. I cant see that they have ever been near direct heat. The amount of water in the foil in my container leads me to believe they had to come directly from pot to plate without searing of any type. Also tried the tri-tip which was dry with only a hint of smoke. The corn muffin was very good but the spread they gave to put on it was melted inexpensive margerine with a hint of honey.
There are so many good restaurants in the area. Go elsewhere

I'm curious whether the last reviewer complained, because she certainly should have. I don't like salt and NEVER add it to any dish, not even french fries. I've enjoyed Mo's pulled pork sandwiches many times and have never experienced what she describes. Every time the sandwich has been wonderfully delicious, with an exquisite balance of lean pork cooked to savory perfection with just the right ingredients. So what happened on that day? Maybe an employee accidentally spilled salt into the pulled pork. In any case, whatever happened, it's a shame she wasn't able to enjoy what is normally some of the best barbeque this side of the Texas/Arkansas border.

Sorry, I wanted to like it. It smelled wonderful. I often eat and make BBQ as well. So I was pulled in by the signs of "Best BBQ in town" etc...But my pulled pork sandwich was so oversalted I couldnt even finish half of it. Even my kids and husband thought so. The coleslaw was fresh and crunchy though, which I like. But sadly thats all I liked about this place. I mean it had so much salt, it was totally inedible.

Mo's Smokehouse in Pismo Beach, right next door to Brad's Restaurant downtown, has wonderful barbeque. Everything on their menu is authentic and delicious. My favorites are the pulled pork sandwich, their garlic fries (the best I've ever had) and their meaty ribs, so tender the meat pulls away from the bone using only your lips. I haven't had all of the side orders, but their cabbage slaw and baked beans are both sublime. Mo's has their own brand of barbeque sauces and they're good enough to take some home.
