My wife and I came down to Pismo Beach for a wedding and romantic getaway. Our stay at Mission Inn was delightful. We were very impressed by the personality of the front desk staff and the continental breakfast, which rivaled a breakfast at a quality restaurant. The hotel was spotless and had a good view of Pismo from it's location on the hill, not to mention the easy access to the beach, shopping and freeway.

Arrived for a four day stay with our young children. Guarenteed reservation with credit card in advance. They gave our room away and bumped us to another hotel with no compensation. Hotel we were bumped to was far away from Pismo Beach. Like many other postings, they said that even with a credit card they never guarentee reservations - unethical and simply wrong. These people should not be allowed to manage a hotel!

This hotel is OK if you don't mind not getting the room you booked and being told it is your fault. This is another case of the "Bait and Switch" review. Everything about this hotel was great as reflected by most of the reviews but the problem is in how they handle reservations. I reserved a 2-bedroom suite for 4 nights 3 months in advance for what I thought was a fair price. I called the day before the reservation to confirm and was told there were no problems. When we got there the next day, we were told the suite was overbooked and they would give us a nice patio room with 2 queen beds but it was a single room which I said was unacceptable. They offered to try and book us at a Quality Inn Suites across the freeway which I also said was unacceptable. Reluctantly, we were given the patio room for the price of the 2-bedroom suite and another room down the hall free of charge which was an inconvenience since a family member was on crutches. What makes me hesitant to ever stay here again was that there was no apology or phone call to explain the switch. The reservationist at the desk tried to say it was my fault for not following up my online reservation with a phone call explaining why it was necessary for our family to have a 2 bedroom suite. She said then the hotel would know not to switch us to a single room. She said overbooking was standard policy. I'm suspect the reason we were switched out was because I booked early for a lower price and being Memorial Day weekend, they could get a much higher price for the 2-bedroom suite. She also said we were lucky that there was another room available, otherwise they could not accommodate us with 2 rooms. The hotel was not full so the room we got for free would have probably been empty anyway. This is the 2nd time I have stayed at this hotel and both times, I did not get the room I booked. Because of the attitude of the reservationist and their overbooking policy to suit their needs, we will be staying at Embassy Suites in San Luis Obispo in the future.

After 12 hours of travel time with a young child, the Mission Inn was the perfect place to settle for a few days! The front desk help greeted us with warm smiles and promptly directed us to our room. No waiting, no problems! The rooms were spacious, comfortable and very clean and quiet. The free breakfast is fantastic! Not just cold cereal and an apple like at so many hotels, but bacon, eggs, fresh juices, Greek yogurt, waffles and much more, depending on the day! It was also nice to be able to stop in the lounge for a glass of wine and a smile from their bartender. The Mission Inn is a beacon to travelers and a wonderful, enjoyable, friendly place to call home...away from home!

We made our reservation over one month in advance and guaranteed it for late arrival with a credit card. We called at 7pm to advise the hotel we would arrive close to 10pm. The person at the front desk said our room was "waiting" and confirmed that our credit card guaranteed the room for late arrival. We arrived at 9:30pm and was told that the hotel had been oversold and that they had given our room away to a online travel agent guest. The front desk person said he had arranged for us to stay in Santa Maria - 25 miles south. The room was close to $80 more per night. Since it was a higher rate, we were told that the difference would be billed to Mission Inn and that the Santa Maria hotel would only ask us to pay the Mission Inn rate. Thankfully I called to confirm this information with the Santa Maria hotel and they said we had no guaranteed room with their hotel nor would they bill Mission Inn for the difference in price. Wow!

The young man at the front desk told us that the whole mess "was not his fault" and if we wanted to "blame someone, to blame his manager " who apparently told him to bump us for guests who had booked through a "third party reservation service". He went on to say "there are no guaranteed rooms here even with a credit card". So beware!!!! This was Memorial Day weekend!!! This hotel is dishonest and does not follow industry standards for guest reservations.

After waiting at the front desk for close to two hours, the Front Desk Manager arrived, and gave us a room at 11:15pm. I think they would rather give us a room then have us sleep in their lobby.....
