“So Glad That We Found This Place! True Perfection!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2012

We found this place by doing a search for beach front hotels near San Luis Obispo, which is half-way between San Francisco and LA. We took the treacherous drive down the Pacific Coast Highway with our four teenagers in an SUV. We've never seen a more welcome site in our lives than this resort after that drive! Our 2 bedroom penthouse suite was over 2200 square feet with a sub zero fridge and a fully equipped kitchen and an incredible glass balcony overlooking the pool and bluffs over the ocean. Every corner of this resort was immaculate. The landscaping was spectacular. My only wish is that we had more time to spend there. We had to leave to head to LA after two days. I literally had to drag the kids out of there! They were all acting like kids again... Searching for sea glass on the beach, swimming, playing. We especially enjoyed the firepit which was right beside three gas grills which we used to cook steaks we bought at a market nearby. This place is paradise on the west coast.

My family and I had a fantastic weekend at the Dolphin Bay Resort. The staff was very accommodating to the needs of our three found kids and even welcomed us with sand toys and art supplies (crayons, constructions paper, scissors, play dough and glue) that were put to good use throughout the trip. The pool was enjoyable for kids and adults with an impressive Ocean view and poolside service.I liked the location because Pismo Beach can get really crowded but this is on the Shell Beach side and removed from that. The hotel sits right on the water with great views of the Ocean. You have to walk down some stairs to get to the beach but its a nice cove, with great tide pools and even on a holiday weekend, wasn't especially crowded. I'm a huge fan of the central coast and I loved being able to enjoy what it has to offer from this wonderful gem of hotel.

We spent 1 night here with two of our dogs (8 month Boston terrier pups), and we really liked the ocean-view garden patio we had. The room amenities, both for us and for the pups were really nice. The rooms had 2 doggie food/water bowls, there was a nice walking trail on the property that linked with other properties, and several doggie-bag stations. Which was great. I loved that most of the staff, was very friendly with our dogs, and you really didn't feel like, you were shoved back in a corner of the property, out of sight. So, kudos to the Dolphin bay, for really being pet-friendly.

All their rooms are suites, so, it was nice to fix a special breakfast the next morning. The Lido was quite nice...the food was nice. The only comment we had about the food, was that the desserts were a bit too sweet, nonetheless quite attractively presented.

The only thing that we wished they were better at, was our check-in was a bit delayed, as they were still cleaning the room. That was a bit tough, after a 4-5 hour drive, and two tired dogs. But, would stay there again.

We stayed in an ocean front room with a great view. Also had a balcony for relaxing and enjoying afternoon sun with a glass of wine. The rooms are spacious, clean and very comfortable. Especially enjoyed the fireplace. The location is great! Easy access to Pismo Beach, Avilla Beach or SLO. Also convenient to Morro Bay and Montana De Oro. Many great places to walk, eat and site see.

Room Tip: Ocean front rooms are worth the extra!

We have gone to this resort several times over the past few years - both as a family of 6 in the 2 bedroom suite and as a couple - the one bedroom. We LOVE being right on the ocean, it is unmatched and we have stayed at soooo many places along the coast of California, including Bacara, The Four Seasons in Santa Barbara , Ojai Valley Inn and Spa etc. Even though the central coast can be cool and cloudy we just love this quiet remote setting. Despite a huge wedding event this last weekend while we were staying we felt like we had the place to ourselves - pool was lovely beach was within walking distance and we just hung out in our room and cooked up our own meals!! Absolutely delightful - our favorite place by far!

First time staying here and loved it. We normally stay at the Cliffs but since we decided to bring our 2 teenage daughters and 2 dogs we decided to stay here at Dolphin Bay Resort. This place was a perfect choice. We got an ocean front 2 bedroom suite. So much room. The girls had their own bedroom and bathroom, there was also a washer and dryer unit within our room, full kitchen and wonderful view. Our dogs even had their own beds and dishes. They even had a welcome basket with each of their names on it filled with doggie treats. The room was clean, smelled good and i know this sounds weird but I loved the bed linens. Very comfortable. The staff was very friendly. Prior to arrival they offered to have the room filled with groceries. I declined but I wish I would have, oh well. Room service was great and as with any hotel/resort somewhat pricey. The hotel as a whole is pretty quiet. Next door at the Cliffs has more of a lively atmosphere. During the summer there are the outdoor weddings. So depending where your room is located you may encounter the music of the reception. We were in the south building and we could barely hear anything. I definitely would stay here again. Since i didn't hear any complaints come from my daughters, I can only assume they enjoyed their stay too.

We spent a total of 3 nights and had 2 different rooms. First room was a one bedroom with approx. 900 sq. Ft. You walk in and everything is pure class. Kitchen is granite with stainless appliances. Everything is in the kitchen you need or want. Beautiful open floor plan, living room with fireplace and glass doors to the balcony, facing the ocean, with no obstructions to your view. The bedroom and bath are very nice and super clean. These rentals are so well taken care of. Our room looked as if it had never been occupied. You pay for this though! We were at the far south building on the end away from everything, so we found it to be very private and quiet. This is one place that when you enter the lobby, it looks so so. The villas are much nicer. Usually lobbys are much nicer than your room! At 425.00 per night, I can't say I would return soon. It is too high for Pismo beach. However, our villa was beautiful. The 2nd villa was 2 BD/2 bath and very large. Every bit as beautiful, but for the two of us, we didn't want this large of a villa, it was all they had. This would be great for a larger group. I didn't see kids around, it is not a run of the mill family looking place.

Room Tip: Try searching everywhere online for a better rate. Downside, if you are at the far south buildings...
