“What a treat!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2013

This is a lovely little park best visited in the fall when the trees are full of monarch butterflies - you have to look hard to see them as they look like leaves on the trees. A great walk from the park to the beach - lovely area!

“Monarchs on strike?”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2013

Not a butterfly to be found. Was hopeful, but no luck. Parking was easy and there were folks ready to dispense butterfly teachings.

“Might be worth a quick stop”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2013

We were driving back to the Bay Area after a weekend in Santa Barbara and decided to make a quick stop. It wasn't too hard to find and only a few minutes off 101. The grove itself is pretty small and didn't take up much time. There were about 100+ monarchs in the eucalyptus. I would imagine at the right time of year, it would be amazing to see them in the thousands. Be sure to take an extra 10 minutes or so and head to the beach just down the path from the grove. It's a lovely, long stretch of beach with very soft sand. Glad we made the stop and would love to go back when the butterflies are in full force.

“Wait for November”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2013

It was a beautiful day. Not cold but not hot. There were some butterflies fluttering around but not what I expected. The trees which could be covered with butterflies were barely visited. It was definitely wonderful to be in their presence but would have been better if there were more.

“CAUTION WHEN VISITING BUTTERFLY GROVE”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2013

Except for a few parking spots off the street you have to park on the shoulder of Highway 1 and cross the street to get to the Grove. There are no crosswalks designated and there is a curve just N. of the Grove that makes it easy for drivers to not see pedestrians crossing. The speed limit is 40 miles per hour. Pedestrians often have to run across the road or come out from between cars. Since the Grove is hard to spot for first timers this is a real problem for pedestrians. The Grove itself is a great place to visit. I gave it a low rating to call attention to the traffic situation.
