Actually the restaurant is on Bodega Avenue. rather than street - but no biggie. The place is inside a small grocery store with somewhat questionable characters, but the food is WELL worth the stop. Just ignore the girlie books and the like.
I couldn't believe the extensive selection of very interesting single and combination BBQ offered. Tri-Tip, pulled pork, chicken, ribs, sandwiches, plates, lots of side potentials. etc.. The offerings, tapped along the glass-fronted service bar seem endless. You can get a combo with pork (sliced or pulled), chicken, and tri-tip - a monster sandwich. Or just a single meat sandwich - still huge. Most unusual is that the sandwiches come with coleslaw, mayo, onions, pickles, and great tasting BBQ sauce all nestled into one soft roll. I shouldn't say nestled, because the delicious ingredients tend to leak out of the too-soft bun.
Rarely have I tasted more delicious pulled pork. It was very tender with little fat. No grease. I had only the coleslaw plus meat in my sandwich and it was a great contrast between the zippy, crunchy slaw and the smooth, tangy sauced meat. I'd recommend that combo, but I wish the buns were a bit sturdier.
My husband had all the works on his pulled pork. It was apparently delicious but sloppy as all get out. Also, the great quantity of onions on the sandwich afterward caused him a bit of heartburn.
When we were there, the toilet lacked a sitting seat and there was no toilet paper - plus no Warning. Ladies - practice your squat. There was, however, soap and water, but no paper towels for drying. Hopefully this was just a one-time glitch The serving counter is spotless. There is very limited seating.
Enjoy, enjoy. It's well worth visiting.
