“Not enough for the price....”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2014 via mobile

As the price for tent camping was at $67 dollars a night I was expecting this to be an impressive koa, however it smelled like cows as we were right by a pasture, the site was not very pretty with minimal tree coverage, and my shower only stayed hot for the first 3-5 minutes. If you are an adult hoping to enjoy the hot tub, forget it. It is constantly packed with kids splashing around. Also do not use the water for drinking, two bugs came through the spout with other particles. All I wanted was a hot shower and did not get it. Just way too expensive for what it was, especially just to sit my tent on the ground for a night and take a shower

My husband and I stayed there for three days during the America's Cup Races. Not only was the deluxe cabin just like a mini-house including the beds being pre-made, and plenty of basic essentials - plus WiFi and a TV, the grounds were immaculate. There was a barbeque grill right on the deck and it was a gated ground so you felt very safe. Very clean and well maintained swimming pool. Will def go back again!

Room Tip: Choose the deluxe cabins if you don't have an RV!

Had a great time with my kids here.

We stayed at the same time as a motorbike meeting. So it was slightly full of revving bikes. But on the whole was great. We used the pool, giant bouncy thing, play ground and washing machines. All of which were great.

It's a busy big campground
Our rv was one of many

Maybe because it was the July 4th weekend (obviously) but it was crazy busy. No issues and lots of fun and things for kids and families to do. We were told it is usually busy here. Good places usually are.

Some people complained about the fees, we think they were good given everything you get. No complaints there

Nice campground and would stay again, even after being there of a crazy busy time.

We stayed at this great KOA for 5 days! Staff was very friendly and helpful….. check-in was a snap! The sites were pretty level, paved and there was grass and trees between sites. Overall, this is a large facility that is well maintained, clean and well kept. The bathrooms are exceptionally nice, clean and modern.

There is something for everyone. A great playground for kids, large swimming pool, Bocce Ball, climbing wall, oversized bouncy pillow thingee that is a hoot, recumbent tricycles for rent, etc.. For those who do not own an RV, there are small log cabins and “lodges” (bedrooms, loft, bathroom/shower and kitchenette). There is a special area for dogs to exercise, and romp around to burn off energy. There is a farm-animal petting area with a donkey, goats, etc. No…… there are no farm smells/odors, and the grounds are far enough away from Highway 101 that road noise is not an issue. Just go there! This is very nice place to “camp.”

Room Tip: Something for everyone

We always stay in the KOA cabins. We were here a little early in the season, so it was a bit wet and soggy. The campground was overall clean and the bathroom facilities were very clean and updated. The layout was good and the store was well stocked. We didn't smell anything from surrounding farms. Overall, our experience with this location was very good.

The only disappointing things we noticed were:

Even though many kabins were open, we were placed in the one spot that had the whole yard area flooded. The picnic table area was a puddle and the fire pit was full of water. There were employees driving around often, they really should check on the facility before checking someone in. They moved us to another cabin with no issue.

On the same note, one of our neighbors checked out and for the remaining two days that we were there, nobody bothered to clean up the dumped over garbage pile on the porch. We saw employees driving around, but nobody bothered to check on the cabin.

Room Tip: There are two rows of cabins. One row faces the bathrooms and the other doesn't. The row that...

I don't love to camp. BUT my husband and two boys absolutely love to. This KOA is a great compromise. We reserved a cabin because we stayed in March when the weather is unpredictable in Northern California. The one room cabins fit a family a four fine (even a pack n' play for the baby), they had heat and cable TV!

It was a short walk to the bathrooms, but even with the rainy weather, it was easy and convenient. The bathrooms were clean, and the water was warm. On top of all the luxuries, my boys found immediate friends at the hot tub and playground. It made my stay more enjoyable when my kids were entertained ;).

It was also a super easy drive to the coast, Tomales Bay, the local breweries/wineries and the city. The location is pretty special (and unlike other reviewers...my ultra-sensitive nose didn't pick up a hint of manure).

Enjoy!

Room Tip: One room cabins do have heat, don't be scared away by the weather!

Thank you for staying with us at Petaluma KOA Campground and RV Park. The camping cabins are a convenient and affordable option for all the fun of camping without having to rough it! The heaters and having cable tv available(if you choose to use it) make the cabins a nice option for a getaway without worrying about the weather.
We wish you many great camping adventures!
