I had a great meal and very nice experience at Roy's on Maui a couple of years ago. I highly recommend it. But the Roy's in Pebble Beach was nowhere near that standard.
We arrived early for our reservation - about 20 minutes. So we were told to wait in the lobby. We sat down and ordered drinks. Twenty five minutes later they hadn't arrived, so we went to be seated. To their credit, they seated us at a nice table near the windows. A pleasant surprise. The food was good- I enjoyed the blackened Ahi and my date was satisfied with the butterfish.
My complaint is with the service. It took a long time to get the appetizers, and then the entree came out within just a few minutes later. My date had not even stared her salad. Then the wait staff disappeared. No drink refills. No plates cleared for a long time when we finished eating the entree. The wait for a desert menu was so long we decided to get desert elsewhere. Then we had to wait an unusually long time for a check. Long enough that the foursome at the next table was joking with us about it - they had to wait even longer than us. This was not a busy evening for the place. We were there on a Sunday night and the dining room was less than 1/3 full.
I'm not one to complain often, but this was a poor dining experience. There are plenty of good restaurants in the area, and this is not one of them. I recommend visiting others rather than Roy's.
