“Still set's the bar high”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2013

There was a time when you stopped in Paso to look for a bathroom off of Hwy 101. Now the town is an actually food destination. Artisan has moved from a cool old building on14th street down to the park area which is now a bustling restaurant hub.
I've always complained that it's impossible to find real pizza in Paso but in the new location Artisan has a wood burning oven. It's expensive at about $14 for a 9" pizza but it's damn good, using local ingredients on an excellent crust. The crust matters.

“Small Portions - way overpriced.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2013

Too bad. Such a nice location but portions are way too small and definitely overpriced. I see the Artisan restaurant has dropped way down on the TripAdvisor rating list - not surprised. The novelty of a great location soon wears off if the food quality/value rating is not upheld. Nice to see Robert's as #1. Their food quality/value rating is very high and it consistently shows. I actually think Artisan will not last another 24 months given their rate of decline on the local dining scene. Paso Roblan's are smarter than this and the restaurant cannot survive on the tourist trade alone.

“Best in Paso Robles Wine Country”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2013

Artisan was a perfect meal from start to finish. I liked the focus on local wines for the wine list. Our server was delightful and helpful in recommending a great local wine maker. The menu looked simple but everything was executed well. We started with a simple meat ball dish that was great. The pumpkin risotto with gingerbread crisps was subtle. Can't recommend this place enough after a day of touring wine country. The only negative is that it is a bit noisy for my tastes.

“Very Good maybe a bit on the pricy side”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2013

My husband started with the house made meatballs with house made ricotta gnocchi. He said it was tasty but the meatballs were a little dry and he thought the gnocchi were a bit over browned but it still was very good. I had the Petrolia Sole in Red wine sauce with lobster mushrooms and potatoes. I thought it was good but a very small portion for what I think was $34.00. It was good I can't say it wasn't. Last year I had the halibut here and it was EXCELLENT and saw it on the online menu and was hoping to have it again. My husband also preferred last years Rabbit three ways over the this years Rabbit Paella. It to him was more like mild rabbit sausage over rice with vegetables. It was good but not as excellent as rabbit three ways. A changing menu, it will be good or excellent depending on how your taste are and the choice on menu.

“Excellent Adventure in Eating!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2013

Artisan is a gem! Chef Kobayashi has created a unique menu sourcing local meats, produce and wines. The seasonal menu ensures a constant influx of interesting courses. The new venue is attractive and very comfortable. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Although not inexpensive, the price is commensurate to the experience. I think anyone who loves food will love Artisan!
