I stayed at the Sheraton adjacent to the Pasadena Convention Center for a week in early September while attending a conference for a professional society. The Sheraton was one of the host hotels for the event, due in large part to its location next to the convention center. That point made the Sheraton a great choice for this event. However, as a hotel, I found the Sheraton to be average.
I believe this is an older establishment. While it appeared to be in good shape, it had an old building vibe. However, the guest rooms were very large (at least the one I was in) and were well appointed. I has a king bed room and there was a lot of space in the room. The bathroom was also well appointed and had plenty of space. There was a good size flat-screen TV in the room along with a coffee maker, ironing board and iron, hair dryer and the normal toiletries. My room also had a safe, however a colleague was displeased to find that her room did not have a safe, so if you feel the need for one, you had better check with the front desk.
There are plenty of outlets in the room, particularly by the desk. I did have to move one of the nightstands out away from the wall to access the outlet by the bed. There is wireless internet in the room for $9.95 for 24 hours.
There is a nice fitness center in the Sheraton on the second floor. I believe there were three treadmills, three ellipticals and a couple bikes, in addition to free weights and some weight machines. There is a small business office (two or three computers and a printer). The small bar is dark and has limited seating, but you can get food there as well.
I ate in the restaurant, Soleil, three times during the week, once each for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food is good and the service is prompt and friendly. The prices seemed reasonable for lunch and dinner, although the breakfast buffet was a little overpriced for what was offered. I really liked the bacon, cheeseburger I had for dinner.
The elevators were extremely slow. There are three, so you would expect a little faster service, but it seems to take quite a while for one to arrive and for them to move from floor to floor. The only thing that is fast seems to be the doors, as they do not stay open that long. Go figure.
The room was a little noisy. On two evenings I could hear the folks next door (talking and the TV). But they were quiet before it got late, so it was not a issue this time. I’m just glad they were not late night partiers.
The staff was great. Everyone I saw was friendly and helpful from the desk staff to the cleaning crew, security and the folks in the restaurant and bar.
Overall, I had a good experience at the Sheraton, but it was nothing special. The location was great for my event at the convention center, but otherwise I felt the hotel was just average. That said, I would consider staying here in the future, if I were attending another event at the convention center.
