“maybe we got a bad room....”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2009

we stayed here one night a few weeks ago while visiting Stanford. The location was fine, the breakfast was fine, the wireless was fine, but the room was very, very old and threadbare. We had a room in the back corner, the window looked out on razorwire, the furnishings were very old, the carpet was well-worn, the bathroom was functional but noisy and I'd guess was installed in the 1960's. Maybe we got the worst room in the place, given the other reviews. I'd suggest asking for a refurbished room if you stay here. Although we had prepaid on the internet, we noticed on our credit card bill that we were charged again for the night of the stay. The double-charge was credited back after two phone calls and a few weeks - so that turned out fine. On a subsequent trip we stayed at the Quality Inn down the street (3901 El Camino Real) and for the same price we were amazed at how much better the room was than ours here.

“Good value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2009

This is a typical american motel where you enter your room from outside of the building. It is located on a busy road, so if you are a light sleeper you might not like the traffic noise. The rooms are large, with everything you need for the night. The breakfast is good. I needed a cheap place to stay for a business meeting near to Stanfrod University, and this hotel provided just that. It was half the price of the fancier hotels near by, so if you don't mind a cheap motel room then stay here, but if you are expecting luxury accommodation then don't book in. There are a lot of restaurants within easy walking distance on California Avenue. One last thing though - the shower was just above my head height and I am 5'4"!

“Amizing Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2008

This hotel is not new but looks like they did some renovation new carpet and new Tv's. But what amase me with this place is the services they provide. In the morning when I was getting ready to leave I realized I locked my key inside my car. I didn't know the area well.
I had an interview in an hour at Stanford University I didn't know what to do. I went down to the office and I talked to lady was on duty what happen. She went to the back and got her car key and took me to my interview. She also called AAA and used her membership for them to come and open my car. After my interview I took a taxi back to the hotel she had my car key at the desk when I got back. I did not know she is the manager of the place. I offer to paid her for the AAA services she refused. Place is nice and clean.

“Above and beyond the call of duty”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2007

The motel is nice enough for what it is-- the cheapest viable option in Palo Alto. It was clean and not noisy at all.

But what really stuck with me was the supreme service from the staff-- Beyond what I would expect at a 5-star hotel.

I had an important meeting downtown and asked them to call me a cab way in advance, figuring I'd be early. They obliged, but after 45 minutes, no cab. They called back and were told the cab would arrive in three minutes. Meantime, I was getting very nervous.

After another couple minutes, the manager got another guy to cover the desk, got her car and took me downtown (about a 15 minute drive) herself. She then refused my attempts to pay for her trouble.

I highly recommend this hotel.

“Pretty Marginal, but Cheap”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2007

I've stayed on two separate occasions at the Travelodge and it really doesn't hit my main requirements for a hotel.
1) It isn't very clean, the carpeting is pretty nasty and the vacumning that is done has left little threads pulled up here and there. I immediately removed the bedspread which also needed a good washing before I'd sit on the bed. The blanket was no better. Sheets are clean but threadbare.
2) the bed isn't very comfortable. It could use a new matress and the pillows are pretty worn out as well.
3) the bathroom is small but fine, if you need a tub verus a shower you won't be happy, but it was clean and the water pressure was very good.
4) I didn't feel comfortable leaving anything valuable in my room. There is a safe in the closet but it looked like anyone could just pull it off the shelf on which it was mounted. The closet, by the by, has no light fixture so you'd pretty much have to enter in your code by flashlight anyway.
Now for the $87 a night rate I had on my first visit it's accetpable, at $99 on the second visit it's over my limit.
On the bright side, the night manager, Richard, has an encyclopedic knowledge of all the restaurants and businesses in the area and offers up great directions. Also, the moring coffee is suprisingly good, though the continental breakfast consists of pre-wrapped vending-machine-quality pastries.

Internet access did not work either time I was there. Fortunately, the Super 8 is close enough that I could get a weak connection there (their net is not secured) however the Super 8's connection is slow.
Parking was fine and the lot is used as a staging area for the local Paramedic units, so if you're planning a serious illness while on the road, this may be the place for you.
