“Good location, decent rooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2012

I stay at this location for business travel. The best feature is its walking distance to downtown Palo Alto and nearness to Stanford. The rooms are your normally appointed Sheraton rooms and the wifi is not free.

I stayed at this hotel as it was recommended by conference organizers. My room was not very clean and the property is definitely tired. The saving grace is that the bed was great. Considering the nightly rate I paid, this was not a good value.

Given the price i paid i was somewhat relieved to be upgraded to an executive room, this was large with a very comfortable bed and access the exec lounge on the 4th floor which was ok for free drinks and free evening nibbles with a decent (free) continental breakfast. I did also have a big breakfast in the main grill which was good also, fresh eggs, omlettes, waffles etc.
Niggles...despite the check-in briefing regarding maid service (put a card on your door to refuse maid service and get 500pts per night as a reward) i didn't put the card out anytime but still got no maid service, ever ! Not a big deal, i had plenty of towels etc.
Room was a bit on the noisy side, not ideal if you're jet-lagged and get woken in the early hours easily....the air-con unit had to be switched off as its automatic on/off was really noisy. It rained one morning and the dripping onto the external unit was really annoying !. Some early morning noise from delivery/service vehicles around 5:30am most days. But the bed was very very comfortable i have to say !
Nice looking outdoor pool which i imagine would be great in summer as the pool bar is right alongside.
Reception staff were friendly, plenty of parking, and internet is $9;95 per day if you don't pre-arrange to have this FOC as part of booking terms.
As with other reviews i think this place does have some tatty edges, noisy corridors, chilly spaces as doors are left open, and a slightly "eighties" feel to it. Might try the Westin next door if i come back anytime soon.

Room Tip: End of corridor rooms should be a bit quiter

I stayed at this Sheraton for just one night as I was attending a conference and this was the recommended hotel. My first impressions were that there must be more choices given that Google, Microsoft and so many others are nearly. In sum, it's clean with friendly, helpful staff but would not recommend this property if you are staying for more than one night. The bed was comfy and the breakfast buffet was pretty good. The rooms and overall property are in need of updating. Just has a tired, worn feel to it. There is a Westin just next door. I did not get over there but perhaps that's a better choice.

Nice hotel with swimming pool. Location was close to Caltrain stop (right behind the hotel) and walking distance to Stanford Campus. The restaurant/bar area is quite nice. Not a busy hotel which is nice if you want to get some sleep or relax.

My wife and I visited last year for the Stanford / Notre Dame game. The hotel was ok...nothing to write home about but ok. The issue we had was that when we left for the game my wife forgot her diamond earrings on the night stand. When we came back from the trip she realized she didn't have the earrings. She didn't wear them anywhere else during the trip and so we called the hotel right away to see if their housekeeping dept had turned them in. It took numerous calls to get the answer that "no we didn't find anything." After numerous attempts over the last year (with no one calling us back) we finally were told this week that she needed to speak to the housekeeping manager because they have a safe deposit box to store lost and found valuables (that was news to us.) She has left four messages (one for the housekeeping manager, two for the manager and one for the GM) this week and no one has called her back. Now, we have no idea what really happened to the jewelry but given that they were given to her by her Dad on her 16th birthday, they have a lot of sentimental value. It would be nice to get a response, even if to say that they have checked and that they do not have them. The moral of the story is that if you do take valuables with you, be careful and do not misplace them. We are not accusing anyone stealing the earrings. We are very disappointed in the management regarding their lack of responsiveness.

Best thing about the hotel is the location. It is walking distance or short bus ride to Stanford campus, and walking distance to downtown Palo Alto. Train station to San Francisco is right next to the hotel. Stanford Shopping Center is also very close. Otherwise hotel is nice but nothing special. The rooms look a bit tired but are otherwise fine. Nice pool and a koi pond in the courtyard. Breakfast OK but nothing memorable. Overall, good hotel but cannot get too excited about it.

Room Tip: Ask to be away from the main road to the west. Facing the courtyard is probably the best option for...
