According to the Days Inn website, this particular motel won the Chairman’s award. The reasons why elude me.
They upgraded us from a Queen to a King bed, and at the risk of sounding ungrateful, the room was a tight squeeze! Once we lay our one
suitcase and one backpack on the floor, there was hardly any room to walk around… Perhaps because the room was so small, there was no garbage bin in the room, only one in the bathroom. We didn’t realize how inconvenient this was till we didn’t have one. The heater was similar to the one my family had in the early ‘80s and took a few minutes to warm up before it would start. During those 5-7minutes, we stood in the room freezing. It would blow hot air till it reached the desired room temperature and then shut off, leaving us to wake up and turn it back on. It was a fight we could not win throughout the night and woke to a frigid room. “Complimentary Breakfast” was advertised on
the website. Alarm bells rang when upon checking in, the lady at the front desk informed us “Breakfast is already in your room. " To my puzzled look, she replied, "It is a continental breakfast”.
This “continental breakfast” consisted of 2 Minute Maid boxes of orange juice, 2 pastries, 2 muesli bars, a bag of microwave popcorn, a little bag of crackers, 2 sachets of hot chocolate and coffee/tea.
I understand that for small establishments, there is little space to have a breakfast room. Nonetheless, this was really a bit of a shocker. They could have included a bottle of milk in the fridge, some
yoghurt, mini cereal boxes, sachets of Quaker oatmeal, even a pre-packed muffin or bagel! For them to win the Chairman’s award, I think the Days Inn Chairman must not be very hungry. The previous raving reviews left me doubting if we were referring to the same place. The price may be good for the Palo Alto area, but lower your expectations accordingly.
