“An Excellent Choice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2005

Although I must say I was not all that impressed with the creek because there really isn't much of one there, The Creekside Inn is a very nicely landscaped property. The one bedroom suites are nice, and everything is maintained very well. The fountain area is very relaxing. It is a very quiet and enjoyable place to stay in a environment like the San Francisco Bay Area. Being a true country boy, I just don't care much for cities. So this hotel is very nice considering it is in the middle of a lot of cities.

However, I have to add that if you are like me and have to frequently go to Palo Alto to take a child to the Lucille Packard Children's Hospital, this is the place you want to go. The hotel is located about a mile from the hospital, and they offer nicely discounted hospital rates, so if you go there for that reason be sure to ask about that. They also have a shuttle service to the hospital.

Overall, I rate this hotel as an excellent choice.

Beware of bait and switch. The Creekside Inn's website features pictures of cute rooms nestled along a creek. There are some rooms like that but there is also a extremely ugly, 1960's vintage 5 story cell-block full of rooms going at the same rates. We were recently relegated to the "penthouse" in this building which turned out to be a musty, stark conference room featuring 12 spotlight style track lights above where the meeting table goes, and a murphy bed with springs sticking out the sides.

The staff was extremely inept, unfriendly and unresponsive. They couldn't figure out the card-key lock system and left us waiting outside the locked hallway for over 30 minutes. Messy room service food trays we observed when we arrived Saturday morning were still in place Sunday morning, and beginning to look pretty bad. There are many better alternatives in the Palo Alto area.

Stayed two nights here while attending the Sunset Magazine festival (very worthwhile). Our room with two doubles was upgraded to a room with two queens which overlooked a lovely fountain area. I had asked in advance for feather pillos and they were already on the bed.

The grounds are landscaped nicely - nice little creek with a bridge. Staff was courteous and helpful. The continental breakfast was fine, as was the adjacent cafe (excellent bread).

We walked to a restaurant, Bistro Elan, and had an outstanding meal on a beautiful patio.

I stayed at the Sheraton in Palo Alto last year for this same weekend and thought it was fine as well, but I liked the more intimate feel of the Creekside Inn.

I got a lot more than my money's worth here. The grounds are beautiful - like an oasis after a day in San Francisco. The rooms were so clean, and had frig and microwave for no extra cost. The staff was polite and friendly. The free apples in the front office were delicious. The free internet was very useful. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to relax and enjoy. A very unique hotel. I'll be returning!
