“Great shake and desserts!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

I had a chocolate milk shake with peanut butter in it. Very creamy and about three glasses worth of shake as they give you a glass plus the metal container they prepared it in. My wife had a piece of apple pie, which was very tasty. (She shared.) Our young friend had a piece of chocolate truffle bread pudding, which was sinfully good!

“Great breakfast, worth the wait on a Sunday morning”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

Good stuff - we elected to come down to Palo Alto from SF for breakfast and a trip to Stanford - glad we found this place! The Wife had breakfast, eggs, potatoes and a bagel. I had a French Dip and some hash browned potatoes, a great combination. We also split a Mint Oreo shake, kind of a splurge but it was also very, very good. We had to wait 15 or so minutes, but when we sat down, someone got right to us. Service was good, although not outstanding. The place does have character and charm, like an old-fashioned parlor, as other people here have mentioned. If I were back in Palo Alto and hungry for breakfast, this place would be on my short list.

“Palo Alto tradition & best milkshakes in the world!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2012

This place is always hopping with locals, and there's a good reason for that: excellent service, top quality diner food, and an unbeatable ambiance. It feels way more authentic than a "Johnny Rockets" type cliche-laden establishment. They don't take reservations but the staff is terrific at coordinating availability and we never wait very long. We prefer the booths, but the tables are great too. The pot pie is the best I've ever had - I order it every single time we come. This is a kid-friendly establishment: our toddler and kindergartener love it as much as we do. They provide crayons and paper upon request, and you can even order an "off menu" Mickey Mouse pancake, which is our 5 year old's standing order. =) Most importantly: DO NOT MISS THE MILKSHAKES! It is worth paying the extra cents for the "extra thick" - you can split one of those between two people easily. Probably our favorite family restaurant in downtown Palo Alto!!!

“I love this place for the hambergers and of course the SUNDAYS”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2012

This is like going back in time for me., The food reminds me of the old fashion ice cream parlors., The menu has loads of other options but I always go for the comfort food

“An old downtown Palo Alto tradition”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2012

Locals have been eating here since the 1930s. Finally a rich tech guy bought it and preserved it in the 1930s style. You can get a burger and Dom Perignon for $150, otherwise the menu is very traditional. The food is all fresh, and the baked goods are made on the premises (and for sale at a counter near the back door).
