“Fabulous breakfast!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2012

I met a friend here this morning on her suggestion. There was a wait - about 30 minutes - but totally worth it. We had a lovely table outsidfe. Extensive menu, eveything so fresh and yummy. Good service. Reasonable enough prices. Would come back in a heartbeat!

“Palo Alto Institution”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2012

We have been eating at Joanie's for 20 years (both at its present location and the old spot down the street). Our kids have grown up on their pancakes and French toast, and it is often their choice for dinner (in part, because you can get breakfast for dinner!) We tend to come more now in the evening as the wait isn't as long as it is in the mornings and you can satisfy your craving for an omelette and hashbrowns just as well. The restaurant does not take reservations. If it is busy, you simply sign the waitlist when you arrive, but they WILL NOT seat you if you are missing anyone from your group. It may seem a bit arbitrary, but it does ultimately improve the wait times for everyone in line. They have all the basic diner food, eggs, pancakes, burgers, salads, sandwiches, and everyone in our family tends to have a favorite that they order each time. In the evening, they offer about 4-5 dinner specials (flank steak, beef bourguignon, seafood crepes). The staff is friendly and quick. The portions are large. It isn't fancy, but there is a reason why it is so busy. You get consistently good food, and they are very welcoming to families - you will see lots of kids from high chairs on up.

“A Great Menu”

Nice to enjoy a restaurant with a full menu that allows breakfast items in the evening.

Good food, good service, enjoyable.

“Good food, but service not great.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2012

Looking for a late breakfast and it was not crowded when we arrived. Got seated right away, but then it took longer than would have liked to get a waiter and when one finally came our direction he stopped at a table seated after us and took their order. They were obviously locals, but it made this visitor a bit peeved. Luckily the food was good, nicely portioned and reasonable.
