“A Zinful place to land for the night”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2012

If you are looking for a place to land for the night after an all-day shopping trip or wanting an inexpensive place to stay for business trips, the Zen Hotel is a place you can try. It is really what most of us call a motel, but when you walk into the room, you feel like you are in a plush hotel suite. The rooms are nice a cozy. The mattresses are wonderful!! They have all the modern conveniences one needs - flat screen TV, frig, microwave, large shower heads. Be sure to enjoy the continental breakfast. Foodilicious!!

Room Tip: I would choose a room upstairs. They have balconies.

“Lovely and inexpensive place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2012

We were looking for a place to stay with our two kids that wasn't too expensive. At the Zen Hotel, we got a one-bedroom suite with a pull-out couch for a very reasonable price. The room was very nice -- it had a decent-size bedroom, and large living room with a kitchenette and a large dining table. The bed was comfortable and the shower was good. They serve a hot breakfast each morning -- eggs, meat, potatoes, bagels, muffins, etc. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. It is a converted motel, but that didn't bother us at all. The only problem we had is that our room was on the main road, which was a bit noisy. We really had a very nice experience here.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the main road.

“Zen Schmen”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2012

A very disappointing experience despite the promising reviews on which we based our decision to stay. We stayed two nights at this ‘hotel’ – a motel by any other name. This is not a hotel, but a motel that has been renovated (the rooms have been modernized and a slight attempt to make the parking lot to feel like an Asian garden - NOT), but as pointed out by one of the reviews this means that you do have to put up with the noise of cars coming and going, and other guests talking and pulling suitcases to their rooms, and passing traffic on a very busy road. Our first night was horrendous. While there are blackout curtains, the windows in the bathroom (which open onto the bedroom – the shower and toilet is in separate room from the sink) do not, and the light from the outside balcony came into our room, and lit the room up. Other guests then talked on their cellphones after stepping outside so as not to wake guests in their own rooms! The beds are comfortable, but the pillows are made for hobbits – they are only half the size of standard pillows so I would suggest you bring your own. Breakfast in the lobby added insult to injury. Scrambles eggs were tasteless and rubbery, the bacon looked like it was man made, and the oatmeal was floating in lukewarm water. We requested to be moved for the second night to overcome the light issue. This room was much smaller and darker, but alas we were woken very early in morning by cleaning staff pushing their trollies in the parking lot. Needless to say we skipped breakfast the second day – we decided starving was a better option. Check out is at 11, but don’t be surprised if cleaning staff come knocking on your door an hour before that. In summary, this motel is anything but Zen – it is not peaceful, tranquil or nourishing to the mind, soul or stomach.

Dear guest,

Thank you very much for sharing your feedback about your most recent stay with us. I am very sorry to learn that our accommodations did not fully meet your expectations.

Our building setup is indeed an open courtyard, which allows our guests to park in front of the room. In additon to pictures of our rooms, we post pictures of our exterior in our website; as we want to help our future guests visualize the most accurate description of our property.

We currently place Pacific Coast's "Hotel Collection Touch of Down Pillow" in our rooms. By the mere nature of the material of the pillow, they can be easily shaped into less than its standard size. However, should you prefer a different option, our pillow menu also includes synthetic, hypoallergenic pillows as well, which are less malleable.

Thank you for letting us know about your discontent with our hot breakfast buffet and our housekeeping knocking on your door too early. We will make it a point to review and correct any mishaps for the future.

Should you like to discuss your experience further, please feel free to contact me directly. Our guests' feedback is paramount to the staff and management of The Zen Hotel and we always appreciate learning more about your experience with us.

Sincerely,

Ricardo Berrospi

“I would stay again”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2011

Although my husband's company party was only 20mins from our house, we decided to leave the kids with the grandparents and make a weekend of it. When we checked-in the front desk staff were very helpful and insuring our stay was comfortable. The bed was incredibly comfortable, the decor was modern and very clean, and even the morning breakfast was great! I would definatly recommend this hotel and stay there again.

Room Tip: If you make a reservation 20 days in advance, you get a great deal. Our room was $81 after tax and...

“Very Convenient”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2011

Great hotel just off the main thoroughfare through Palo Alto. There is excellent wifi and the rooms are decorated according to an Asian theme. Breakfast is buffet style and includes fresh bagels and pastries as well as plenty of coffee and juice. The one negative is that the rooms centre around the car park (with the doors opening directly into the car park) and we did find it noisy. The main problem for us was probably that our room was located right next to the ice and vending machines, both of which created noise when used. That said, it was great value and is well located, a 15 minute drive to downtown Palo Alto (walking into town is not realistic, this is a hotel for people travelling by car).
