“Under new management, and it shows.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2011

We stayed at this hotel in late July and early August, 2011. We have been staying there for years, but we will not be doing so again any time soon. The hotel is under new management and the front desk staff informed us that they had just started that week. They were all quite young and appeared not to know what they were doing. Moreover, they were cold and unfriendly and appeared not to care whether guests were happy or not. During our first visit in late July we were given a room that was very dark and musty, not equivalent to rooms we had stayed in before. During our second visit (we took a side trip in between) in early August 2011, the room was nicer but the temperature regulation in the shower was broken so that the water was scalding hot. I complained about this three times and nothing was done about it.
Although this hotel is conveniently located if you are visiting Stanford or Palo Alto, we will not be going back.
We also witnessed other guests who had problems with their rooms and were met with indifference and incompetence. I predict that those guests will not be coming back and that this hotel will lose a lot of its business.

“Location is the winning point”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2011

Before booking this hotel, I read through all the reviews with mixed feelings. To be honest, I agreed with them all after staying in this property for two weeks. It is more of a family-run type of hotel without too much principles/rules to follow for the personnel. The room is dark and has a smell very much for the sensitive ones (my younger son got allergic right after the first night). It can be noisy unless you stay on the top floor otherwise you keep on hearing the queaching sound from upstairs. You can also hear TV or talking sounds from next door or outside from the hallways or swimming pool. However, this is the most convenient hotel if you want to attend to some business in Stanford University. In addition to the shuttle drop-off service provided by the hotel, there is also a Stanford Maguerrite bus stop near by. You can also choose to rent a car as I did. Driving from my hotel to anywhere in Stanford is no more than 10 miniutes. Most of the car rental companies have offices on El Camino Real and near Stanford Terrace Inn. The breakfast has limited choices but with high quality - waffles, oatmeals, fruit yogurt, raisin toast. Very enough to get you a good start in the morning. Starbucks cafe is next door. There is also a Jack-in-the-box and Panda express about 5 miniutes walk from the hotel. You can also cross the road to the gas station inside there is a small shop selling drinks and small snacks. You can even order room service from 5-6 different restaurants - info provided in the room with menus. If you are a good walker, you can walk to Stanford since this hotel is technically right at the edge and should be considered as part of the Stanford campus. I later on checked out the Sheraton and Westin and surprising found that they are actually quite far away from Stanford even though they surely are facing the front end of Stanford. Check the map and you will know what I mean. All in all, I must give this hotel a fair comment. Comparing the price, size of the room, approximity to the campus, I would recommend this hotel to those who want to come to Stanford and feel like a part of Stanford. (Stanfod Guest house is too far away from the main campus from my point of view) Hope this can give you a fair view of what's going on here.

“Not so sure: badly managed hotel staff”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2011

Stanford University booked this hotel for me whilst I had business at the University, and I have to say I will ask them not to put me in this hotel again. I had arranged a pickup from Palo Alto caltrain station, but no-one was there to meet me. I had to ring the hotel, finally they sent someone but said that I was misinformed by reception and that they do not do pick-ups from Palo Alto. When I arrived my room had not been cleaned and it took them 15mins to find me another room. When I tried to use the Wifi in the new room, the signal was so bad that the network was unusable. I rang reception and asked to be moved to a room with internet and my request was ignored. I went to reception and was told to use the computer in the lobby- not acceptable when I had big meeting to prepare for the next day. Finally they upgraded me to a king size suite with internet which I have to say was very nice. However the next day the internet was extremely slow and the cable TV stopped working.
Considering how much this hotel costs I think its unacceptable. It seems like they have new staff who don't really know what's going on. The rooms however are spotless and very comfortable.

“Loved it”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2011

Stayed with my husband while he was there for work. Loved its proximity to Stanford and to El camio so I was totally mobile and did not need a car. The DISH was just walking distance!.

The room was great, with wooden flooring. Really shiny, clean and well maintained. The rooms were spacious and ours even had a nice desk. I got some good amount of work done there.

Service was friendly. The pool was gorgeous and the place had a very relaxing feel to it. Nice touch with the beautiful pots of flowers.

Overall loved it and would definitely recomment it .

“Business traveler- absolutely great hotel in Palo Alto/Menlo Park area”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2011

I travel every week up to Menlo Park for work. I found the Stanford Terrace over a year ago and it is my home-away-from-home, as I stay here every week.

The hotel has a Zen-vibe. The staff is excellent; the owners are dedicated. You cannot beat the location.

All in all, a first class hotel.
