For a small fee, you can have the exhilarating experience of seeing the bay area from high above the Stanford campus. The viewing area is open except for metal gratings which allows you to feel the air. Scary for those of us afraid of heights, but awesome nonetheless.

I spent three years at Stanford as a grad student & had never gone up the Tower. Finally did on a recent trip with family, and it was really pretty fun. Killer views from the top. You can see SF on a clear day. If you're afraid of heights it can be a little weird -- they have these scary gates along the side that made this slightly heights-phobic person feel all tingly inside (and not in a good way). But it was worth the weird tingles. Good for kids.
I finished my three hour visit to Stanford going to the Hoover Tower. The day was perfect, no clouds. What an experience! You pay USD2.00 per person and you can hear a short history about it and spend some time on the top. Perfect campus view!
