This is old-school, fresh, Oh My Goodness it's like Butter, awesome sushi. I've had sushi in plenty of expensive, big-city sushi places, east-coast and west-coast and in Asia, for awesome sushi and sashimi this place contends with the best I've ever had and has remained so for the ten years-or-so I've been in the Valley.
The key seems to be Sushi Chef, Masa-San. He is always behind the counter - he must be the owner, he's quiet, friendly, and really knows sushi. Shogun has a sushi bar that might seat six plus maybe the same abount of tables. You'll find excellent sushi and some other very good Japanese fare served in a nice, cozy environment at a very reasonable price. Please note you'll not find: sumo matches on television, blaring music with disco lights, teriyaki taco tiramisu or any other asian fusion, exploding live octopus roll or a bunch of other crazy rolls - not that there's anything wrong with that stuff - it's just not this guy's gig. The decor and menu are clean and classic and that's it - and don't worry, he has some wonderful, big rolls - they just aren't moving or on fire or anything.
Make sure to call them and Google Map the place before you go - it's staff is so small it's not open 24/7 and it's tucked back from the road across Q-6 from the Hammack Activity Center in a small, unassuming looking little place with no big signs or anything. The parking lot fits only six or seven cars in front so if it's crowded, I just park in the Activity Center parking lot and walk across the street.
