“Absolutely fantastic getaway!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2007

I spent 4 nights at the Viceroy in October 2007 with my wife. We were
delighted with our entire stay. The rooms were clean and well-appointed, and the grounds are simply beautiful. We spent the first day by the pool and sat in the sun, occasionally taking a swim, drinking cocktails and eating from the restaurant (which was glad to serve poolside). We enjoyed it so much we cancelled the next days plans and spent the entire day poolside once again. The poolside waiter, Dan, was beyond impressive--always available but never hovering.

The crowd there is definitely a 30s and 40s gang, so it was much quieter by the pool and the bar than other places.

The hotel is conveniently located to downtown Palm Springs and it's restaurants and shopping--we walked to everything.

Highly recommended for a romantic vacation, can't wait to go back.

We arrived at the hotel to a very friendly welcome. We were early. Our room wasn't but they offered us a different room. They mentioned it didn't have as good a view which was not a deal breaker for us so we took it. Decor was fab - trendy but not unwelcoming. Room size was great - 2 large queen beds. Bathroom was good with great toiletries and robes. There was a very helpful guest card in the room detailing all the services and local amenities. Pool areas were good. We were at the pool by the main hotel. There was free water and sun screen available by the pool - very handy when it is 110 degrees. Close walk to the centre of Palm Springs. We didn't eat there but the menu looked nice. Would recommend a cocktail by the pool. Would definitely return to the Viceroy.

  • Liked — Pool service
  • Disliked — Valet parking is about 2 steps away - still need to tip.

We stayed at the Viceroy last New Year and were so disappointed that I complained to the Kor Group head office. They kindly offered us a complimentary two night stay in a suite, which we took recently. I have no complaints about the service, which was pleasant and prompt, although charging an extra fee for room service PLUS tacking on an automatic 20% tip is a little presumptuous. The suite itself was lovely and comfortable, with bedroom, living room, dining room and kitchen. However - and I don't wish to sound ungrateful for what was essentially a freebie - the problems from our first stay were still evident. In a suite that large it is inexcusable that there are no drawers in the bedroom to put your clothes away, and just a tiny closet for hanging clothes. They had an enormous dresser and cupboards in the dining room - handy for those people that travel with their own plates and cutlery! - but nothing in the bedroom. We had to live out of our suitcases, just like the first time round. At $425 a night - which is what the suite normally costs - that is outrageous.
Hanging over the bed was what looked like a plaster ceiling rose. On closer inspection it turned out to be a plastic replica of a plaster ceiling rose, tacky and unnecessary. The internet connection was on a tiny desk in the center of the area where you walk through the suite - if someone was sat at the desk, you couldn't get past! And the huge shower area had no shelves to place your toiletries, so we had to use the floor of the shower. These are just a few examples of the impracticalities of the design of the rooms at the Viceroy. Kelli Wearstler the designer - and surprise surprise, the wife of the owner - needs to try actually LIVING in one of her creations before unleashing them on an unsuspecting public. The Viceroy has a lot going for it, but it needs to address some of these very basic problems before it can justify it's high prices.

  • Liked — Spa, views, location
  • Disliked — Nowhere to put clothes, tacky style.

We went to Palm Springs for a 2 night get away for our anniversary. What a great choice. Tucked away - all staff pleasant and bent over backward to please. Dan by the pool made sure we always were stocked with comp. cold waters, brought our lunch and great restaurant reccomendations. The food at the restaurant for breakfast and lunch was far above average. They showed a movie under the stars one night , brought watermelon around to all guests by the pool - just plain great service and loads of ammenities.

We would gladly return.

We were looking for a nice place to stay and got it here! The guests averaged 30-40's. The pool side service needs a little attention, but the spa is great. We got massages and facials. Our car got scratched in the valet, but we can't be sure it happened there. Overall, it's a very romantic place to stay. Get a room that faces away from the pool cause it can get loud at night and they pump music to the pool area during the day near Citron.

I had to go to to Palm Springs spur of the moment. They offered me a great rate and them upgraded me upon my arrival to a lovely apartment suite with a bottle stocked kitchen. I could have hosted a cocktail party if I wanted to! There are three pools, but only one is available for kids. The bar and restaurant were quite good. The grounds are lovely. Good service.

This is a lovely hotel, peaceful and beautifully kept. My only bad comment would be the front desk staff not very smiley but would still stay here again.
