“could be better!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2007

just returned from a fab holiday in palm springs the place itself is a lovely place to relax and re-charge your batteries, however the palm mountain resort leaves a lot to be desired the maid service is very poor indeed all they seem to do is make your bed and change the towels creams and shampoos which if you stay at a holiday inn is in abundance are never replaced even toilet tissue has to be begged for the so called cabana bar has completely closed down which was a surprise to us as it means that there are no facilities on site at al,l breakfast can be had at the local diner (which is a very good service) but is situated across the street ! the pool is very nice and the garden area is kept very well indeed the rooms are clean too. we also cant understand that two people sharing a double bed are given three pillows very odd !.the reception staff were polite but not very helpfull if you want any info on what is going on in palm springs some even come across as being rather curt, but on the whole it was a nice experience going to palm springs theres lots to see and do and hope to return there however i think it will be at a different hotel next time.

At this time there are no onsite food & beverage facilities but we are footsteps from many great dining areas in downtown Palm Springs to enjoy.

We must have been lucky with our room, it was large and clean with a good bathroom. No restaurant as such but plenty of good restaurants and breakfast places within easy reach.

Free internet in the lobby.

Its location is the main advantage.

My husband and I planned a 5 day trip to Palm Springs and stayed at the Palm Mountain for 2 nights because our first choice of hotels wasn't available those nights. We selected Palm Mountain for location, price, and the good reviews on Orbitz.. Note -- it was more expensive than our preferred hotel, which was rated with one more star.

We were disappointed. The front desk staff were competent but not really service-oriented, knowledgable about the town, or overly accomodating. The rooms were clean but dark and everything seemed a little threadbare. The air conditioning unit was the loudest we've heard in a long time, but the windows didn't open so we had no other choice for ventilation. And the pool -- which really, was the main attraction of the place -- was pretty lackluster: uncomfortable chaises; tiny, thin pool towels and a boarded up tiki bar during the high season. They had two vending machines with snackfoods, but we had to walk to four blocks to CVS just to get a juice!

The final straw was when I returned to the hotel with a badly twisted ankle and had to check out without my husband (who was at a business meeting across town). I was also 20 weeks pregnant at the time, and made it known that I was "fine" but I walked with an obvious limp and was clearly in pain. Not a single employee offered to help me with our four bags! So I made two trips to our room on the other side of the building, got the car from the lot by myself, and loaded everything by myself. It would have been one thing if this were a budget accomodation, but it was about $200/night.

First of all, I have never written a review for a hotel before, good OR bad, but this experience was so terrible that I wanted others to know before they wasted their money. My boyfriend and I decided to get away for the weekend for our birthday celebration, so we were cool to drop a few more dollars than we had originally intended to stay somewhere a little nicer. After hours and hours checking out so many hotels online we finally chose this place. I only wish that I had found this tripadvisor website sooner, since many other people sound like they had the same bad experience that we did! I know for $170 a night you can't expect the most ultimate luxurious hotel, but I thought it would be pretty nice going by the pictures on the website. The grounds were very pretty, but our room was unbelievable. It looked like a horrible old motel room. Flourescent square lights in the ceiling, dirty old furniture, a squeaky springy sounding mattress (I sat on the bed for about 10 seconds and that was enough). The room looked dirty and old and seriously, it was so gross looking that I wouldn't have stayed there even if it was free. I called the front desk immediately and explained the situation and they said they had no more rooms available. I told them this was a complete misrepresentation from the website and told them we didn't want to stay there and did not want to be charged. After some lengthy conversation (eventually with the manager) they agreed to not charge us if we checked out immediately (which we happily did). Keep in mind we had no other place lined up, but we didn't even care. It was that bad. We eventually found a Comfort Inn...not the nice hotel we had in mind, but a million times better than the Palm Mountain "Resort". My friends stayed at The Old Ranch Inn and loved it, so you can bet that's where we'll stay next time. Hope this helps so you don't have to be surprised like we were!!

The last 30 of our rooms are in the process of a needed rennovation. It is unfortunate that you had to experience such unpleasantness on your stay with us, but we are now fixing the last 30.

The staff are not well trained and unprofessional. The moment you walked in the door some of the staff in front desk looks at you head to toe before they acknowledge you. Once you give them your info they will direct you to your room. NO orientation what the hotel offer. NO information given unless you ask (parking area, pool hrs, internet connection, hrs of operation, surrounding areas, etc). The room is run down and very old. You can tell from the walls that it has been repainted 100 times. The bathroom, dont get me started ... worst. How many hotels/lodge/motels have you seen with bathroom doors like a closet??? Yes, a wooden sliding door ... Nightmare!!! The shower cover is a single thin linen and the water drips all over the place which smells like molds overnight. Overprice --> Cheap place.

Best Location in downtown Palm Springs but the Palm Mountain Resort & Spa is like an old rust in the middle of it starting from the room to unprofessional front desk staff. Disappointing!

  • Liked — nothing because there weren't anything to begin with
  • Disliked — All of the above ... from the front desk to the room.

This hotel was a nightmare. Our room reeked of mold with visible growth. I made this clear to the clerk at the front desk and explained that the carpet was wet due to a leaky shower. She assured me she would personally check the room; after viewing our room we were told that "this is as good as we are going to get" and "if I don’t like it, I can go to another hotel" as they were overbooked already. There is no on site bar or restaurant as advertised. The only texture to the walls is that of the paint peeling off. There is no fitness center, and the only thing that you get for the $8 "resort" fee is a buffet of stale bagels, watered down coffee and juice. If you try to take a little food and coffee back to the room for your loved one sleeping in; you'll be scolded that the food is not to leave the "breakfast area". We were quoted $129 a night for our rooms by telephone, and were charged $159 at check in, (we were never sent a printed copy of the reservation). The staff that we were in contact with acted as if they were doing us a favor by allowing us to stay there. Avoid at all costs; this place is a dump.

  • Liked — The landscaping was fairly well maintained.
  • Disliked — The staff was extremely rude, and would not honor our qouted rate.

The Hotel is going through a renovation at this time, improving guestrooms/bathrooms. The continental breakfast has since been upgraded as well.

A small motel in a great location just off the main street in the centre of the old, original Palm Springs.

We were at first offered a very datred room in need of a touch of tender loving care. Needed a re decor, new carpet in fact a complete re furb. We complained and were offered a poolside room.

This had a complete re furb. Nice, clean and tidy with patio door opening onto a patio overlooking the pool. Nice Pool. Free simple, pretty average breakfast.

Good location. Make sure you get a refurbed room.
