“You Can't Ask For Much More”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2014

We had the pleasure of staying in Room 130, a large corner suite with enough space to host a small party. The room was designed to look and feel like a boutique hotel and it was the perfect place for the price for two nights in Palm Springs. The Front Desk was friendly and helpful and the complimentary breakfast at Rick's across the street is a big step up from the typical breakfasts most motels leave out. The pool area was a great way to wind down after a day trekking to the Salton Sea.

Hi PK,

We are thrilled that you got to stay in one of our suites. We take great pride in the design of all our rooms and the suites. We think, and as you mentioned, that our suites are comparable to a luxury hotel. We refer to ourselves however, as “style on a budget. We all like what we do here so it is nice to hear that you found us friendly and helpful. The Salton Sea is a very unusual and beautiful place. Glad you got to see it. Come back and see us!

I was really impressed with The Monroe.
Checking in was easy and quick, my room was clean and crisp. The beds were soooo comfortable.
They brought cocktails around the pool complimentary. As well as a complimentary breakfast at Ricks which has amazing food.
I work with a crew that travels a lot and The Monroe will be the go to hotel for my crew and other groups I work with along with individuals.
The Monroe was good to me and I will refer this place to everybody.

As I was bringing a group of my staff members for a treat, and the hotel we used last year became a Hard Rock I had to find a decent reasonable hotel that takes dogs. After studying reviews, locations and prices I picked the Monroe. It is not fancy, but it was recently redone in modern colors. The poolside suite was really great with a modern motif. Rooms were clean, pool heated, easy parking onsite for free and free wireless that works well. Also free breakfast across the street. Staff was friendly and very nice, our rooms were ready early and cleaned early too!

Room Tip: The poolside suite is really nice. You can't have your pet there however. The pet rooms are on t...

We are a family of 4 and stayed at The Monroe hotel, in February, for 7 nights. The Monroe is situated at the 'tramway end' of Palm Canyon Drive. I would describe it as a budget hotel, with a few extras. The Monroe was fairly recently upgraded, but unfortunately this upgrade seems to have been just painting, replacing furniture (which whilst it is a nice design, our furniture was already covered in scratches) and new vinyl floors (the new bathroom floor was just stuck over the old bathroom floor).

If you are looking for a hotel that is relatively cheap (for Palm Springs anyway), and has a comfortable bed, then this is it. This is not a hotel that you would want to hang out by the pool all day.

Here are the good and bad points in more detail

Good points…

Free Parking
Location - fairly quiet. About 40 mins walk to the main shops/restaurants (although there are some restaurants 2 mins away)
Free breakfast at 'Ricks' (over the road). This was great! Loved the food there.
Comfortable beds
Hot shower
Friendly staff
Cookies by the front desk (these were lovely!)
View of the mountains from our window

Bad points

Our fridge was missing from the cupboard, and the safe didn't work (although the safe was repaired very quickly by the front desk)
The bathroom could have been cleaner (the bath panel and floor)
The shower leaked water down the back of the bath and then it went between the old floor covering and the new floor covering, causing the floor to bubble up and become soggy.
The aircon unit was right next to the bed, at bed height - making it hard to get out of that side of the bed, plus it made it draughty on that side of the bed
The pool and hot tub were tiny. The hot tub fitted 2 people comfortably, the pool was probably 10m long by 3m wide
Free Wifi didn't work - it kept cutting off after a few seconds

We would stay there again though, but only if the free breakfast is still included in the room price. Our room was quite small, but we saw into a suite (when the door was open) and they are a really good size.

Room Tip: We had a room overlooking the pool, which was nice. The suites are much bigger - I would get one of...

Came to Palm Springs for a week of golfing and picked the Monroe. It was a great place and we stay here again in a heartbeat. It was clean and welcoming and the free breakfast across the street didn't hurt either. Keep up the Good Work.

We only stayed one night for a wedding, but everything was great. When we arrived, they offered us drinks and checked us in, in minutes. The room was a nice size and very clean. We didn't have any trouble with noise, which was nice since its festival season and checkout was super quick and easy as well. This hotel isn't fancy by any means, but it was perfect for a quick stay and located near everything we needed. I would definitely stay here again and hopefully get a chance to check out the pool next time.

My daughter and I looked at several places to stay, and decided on the Monroe after reading reviews and seeing the photos.

Check-in was extremely easy, and the clerk was very friendly. The lobby area was clean with water, lemonade and cookies for the guests. There was a pool party going on, so after a quick check of the pool area, we checked out our room.

The hotel is in a good location, but I do wish it was closer to the downtown area. The room was pretty basic, but seemed clean. The bathroom could have been a little cleaner. The room was pretty updated. There were a lot of area in the bathroom and on the door frames that seemed to be patched and painted. The beds were remarkably comfortable, and the room was very quiet. It was probably one of the best nights of sleep we had, due to the comfort of the beds, and the quietness of the hotel. There were a lot of people checked in, but we didn't hear anything once we were in the room. We agreed, based on the photos we had viewed of the hotel, we had a different impression of what we were booking, but it was okay.

Breakfast the next day at Rick's (included in the hotel price), was pretty good. We ended up paying about $200 for the night, and I can't say I'd stay again at that price. Unfortunately, it was spring break, and a Saturday night, so every hotel seemed to have inflated prices, and the Monroe was no exception.
