“Nice stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2013

We stayed one nite at Monroe. The room we stayed is cozy. Staff was very helpful. Upon arrival, saw brochures on some golf courses. Chose Escena golf course as it is a five minutes drive from Monroe. The staff was very helpful in calling Escena to make tee time booking. And they managed to book a time slot that suit our itinerary. Breakfast we had was across the road. Nice breakfast served. It was a set breakfast. Definitely would come back here to stay.

Decorations, bedding and color scheme are quite nice (ceilings are still "popcorn", however), but the sinks and bathroom areas are rather ancient -- but fully serviceable. Those latter items hurt the over-all rating. Otherwise this locale would receive a higher rating.

This hotel was a real bargain. Excellent check-in staff with apple cider and cookies offered immediately after we mentioned our long drive. High standard of room with organic coffee, tea and toiletries. Good advice of where to eat within walking distance and very good value included breakfast over the road in the morning. We also appreciated being able to stock on cereal bars, fruit and coffee before starting another long days drive. We would certainly come back here at any time.

Room Tip: Access to ground level rooms easy with luggage.

Green Features: Not sure what they were but appreciated organic toiletries.

Things I liked: Rarely would a four star hotel rate as highly on so many of the following.

Very comfortable beds, excellent housekeeping daily, solid wood furniture well oiled, very practical engineered wood floors, extra large, flat screen, TV, good fridge and safe, excellent lighting at all locations needed, including bedside, desk, bathroom mirror, good hair drier, night light, plenty of hot water, grounds, parking area and gardens are attractive, very clean and we'll maintained.

Reception staff are friendly and always happy to be helpful. The very reasonable rate included breakfast at a restaurant across the street which is just as we'll managed as Hotel Monroe.

The only thing that detracted from this overall excellent experience was some highway traffic noise, something common in many hotels. This was not noticed during the night but mainly early in the morning. If you get a room where this bothers you, I expect the staff would try to give you a quieter room. Noise from neighbouring rooms was almost non-existent.

The cleanest pet friendly hotel we've stayed at yet. The staff is polite and efficient. Unlike many places that are just interested in collecting your room rent, they go out of their way to make your stay comfortable. Always free juices, coffee, and snacks at the front office, and free breakfast coupons for across the street are unbeatable. Cleaner and quieter than most places that DON'T allow pets. This will always be our Palm Springs rest stop.

Room Tip: Upper floor rooms may have less vibrations from guests walking along corridors upstairs, although ou...

Took a chance on this one, and hit a home run. Hey, we are not looking for a Five-Star hotel, just a clean place to lay our heads and freshen up. The Monroe makes that happen.

Clearly this is an older motel, but the remodel did it right. Our first happy thought was: NO CARPET! I mean, how many motels do you go to and think, this carpet is awful. I wonder what is lingering there. Well, thanks to the laminate flooring in The Monroe, worry no more! This was great! No mystery odors coming from what fell on it a few weeks ago.

The linens were clean, and the whole place had an air of politeness about it. Our only complaints: the water pressure and that DARN fan in the bathroom. I pulled off the cover and unplugged it for our stay. Also, if you are on the pool side, your car is a little ways away, but the neighborhood was quiet even though you are on the main drag of sorts.

A great value overall, and the breakfast at Rick's, across the street (you get a voucher) is MORE than enough to fuel you for the day. All in all, we'd stay here again in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: The rooms on the pool side will probably be louder on weekends and when full, so you might want the...
