What a find. When I mentioned that I was going to Palm Springs, a friend mentioned "a great place across the street from the Ace." Turns out, there's a whole bunch of hotels "across the street from the Ace" but one glance at tripadvisor got me thinking that Desert Riviera was the one he was talking about.
I only stayed one night this time but would definitely go back to the Desert Riviera if I go back to Palm Springs. Everyone who worked there was not only helpful but generous and talkative. The room was clean and cool, and the pool felt divine when I took a late-night dip. Overall, it was quiet - no kids running around, just grownups relaxing by the pool. They have a great, up-to-date DVD library - I started Lincoln and watched Django (I visited summer of 2013).
I loved the bar at the Ace and hung out there most of the night when I visited - but I wouldn't want to stay there. There's a million people, and most of the room there overlook the pool - I imagine it might be difficult to get a quiet night's sleep. Your best bet: go eat and hang out at the Ace, then stroll across the street to the quiet, small, lovely Desert Riviera.
