“Simply amazing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2011

WIthout a shadow of doubt, this is the single best hotel we have ever stayed in. Its a sanctuary!! We picked it using trip advisor and have never been so glad.
We came here after a week of hiking in the national parks on a USA road trip. Im not the sort of person who enjoys sitting around a pool or knows how to relax - until I came to the Desert Riviera. Sitting in the warm, clean, pool looking at the mountain and the hummingbirds, I felt like I didn't have a care in the world. It was so good, that I actually wept when I left.

The owners are warm and welcoming people. They have thought of every thing you could possibly need to enjoy your stay and catered for it.
- we were greeted with ice cold beer on our first night after a long drive
- we were given frozen water before went on a day trip to the desert
- they have all the restaurant menus from town, we sat by the pool and selected one, with their help, they then booked the restaurant for us and took us into town and picked us back up in their limo

The room
- beautiful room, very clean, quiet and well equipped
- two walk in air conditioned closets (perfection)
- free wifi, we borrow a DVD and watched it one evening, free telephone calls

We would like to thank the owners for treating us so well. We live in the UK but are pretty certain we will be back as soon as we can.

I booked this hotel on the basis of all the rave reviews and believe me they are all true. After a very warm welcome we were shown our spacious, clean accomodation overlooking the pool. Everything good thing has already been said about this place. I wish we could have stayed longer than our planned two nights. If I can make two teeny weeny criticisms - we would have like a room safe, and the pool was rather warm for me!

Just like visiting someone at their backyard pool, and staying in their guest house , Desert Rivera is the best we've ever experienced. Larry, Patty and Judy greet visitors as if they have known you for a long time, and keep treating you as such. This small hotel is clean as could be, has very quiet air conditioning units, free coffee, telephone and Email , along with extremely comfortable beds. Larry tends to all small on site details, like putting out the poolside chairs and towels, hanging up the canopy lights for evening and making sure guests enjoy conversation around the fire pit. No children around is a a big plus for us who enjoy quiet lounging by the pool with a good book. Being residents of Palm Springs, Larry, Patty, and Larrys sister, Judy, have first hand knowledge of restaurants, and directions to them. This is our third stay for more than a week at Desert Rivera, and we will certainly be back. Central but quite location is a big plus, too.

Room Tip: From asking other guests, we would say all rooms are good.

This is probably the most difficult review I have had to write - as it is difficult to add to what others have said re the amenities, and the staff/owners. It almost sounds as if I am making it up, or have some affiliation to the hotel.

Let me start by saying if there was a rating of 6, this would be getting a 6, and we are already trying to book a trip back for a week in Palm Springs, staying here (or Hotel California).

Rooms are great, amenities are fantastic, staff/owners are amazing - if you want a lesson is customer service - go and speak to Patti, Larry and Judy. It is no suprise the ratings are so consistently high here.

Our own excellent experience:-

1) Arrived - and offered a beer from the fridge
2) It was our honeymoon and we were given a magnum of champagne
3) We were invited to a party in Hotel California (sister hotel) - we took some drinks, but drank more than we took, and were fed
4) We borrowed bikes to travel into town
5) Every time I walked into the reception to help myself to some reading material, or use the free international phone, or get a board game, I was offered a drink.
6) Drinks were in the fridge in our room for our convenience
7) We were at end of our trip and urgently needed to do some laundry - upon asking where nearest laundrette was, we were offered use of their laundry room.

All of the above was gratis. We were never asked, or felt expected to pay. We had free access to all amenities, and it was encouraged to mix, mingle and chat with other guests. It was more like staying with a distant relative.

I seriously cannot rate this hotel higher - just upset we never managed to stay longer.

Only negatives I can even think of is that the wireless did not work in our room, but did as soon as we left the room. I pointed this out to Judy, and they are going to fix. Also the shower was not the best we came across on our trip.

Having visited the California, the service will be identical. So make your choice :-

newer furnishings = the California
bigger pool = Desert Riviera

Honestly there is no other choice than these two hotels in Palm Springs - and we cannot wait to return with friends.

the smallest yet biggest hotel i have ever stayed in, excellent in every way. judy was a dream host, what a lovely lady. we were travelling from san francisco to san diego as part of our 25th wedding anniversary trip to the US. my wife came across this hotel by chance through trip advisor and what a God send it was. a three hour drive from LA, the hotel is fairly easy to find and located on a street corner. when we booked we told judy we were touring as it was our 25th, when we arrived she greeted us with " here is the honeymoon couple" and a chilled bottle of champange. i have never seen a hotel that supplies you with every thing unless it was all inclusive, available is tea/coffee, fresh fruit, bottled water, soft drinks, free internet, free international phone calls(unbelievable) need i go on? the absence of children was ideal as it meant time around the pool and hot tub was used to chill out and have uniterupted conversations with the other guests. judy was very knowledgable about the areas restaurants, shopping and tourist attractions and gave us excellent directions for everywhere we needed to go. she not only gave us the address of Frank Sinatras grave yard but the plot number - my wife is a fan. but for fans of the king like me, there is a treat in store. Elvis's honeymoon hideout (were Lisa Marie was concieved) is 10 mins away from the hotel, a fantastic tour is in store were you can actually sit on the furniture and go up stairs unlike Graceland.
the desert riviera is very clean, very comfortable and well worth the money. we are planning to go back when we can, my only gripe is i was only there for two days which wasn't enough.thank you judy you are an excellent ambassador for your country.

Room Tip: this as a small family run hotel and all the rooms are ground level and situated pool side, you reall...

Nowhere on its website does this hotel state that children are not permitted. Yet, when a reservation request was made, the response we got was that this hotel cannot accommodate infants or small children. I have never encountered this before, and suggest it should be stated clearly on the hotel's website. What if we had arrived with our child in tow? Would we have been turned away at the door? This hotel does not deserve its high rating if it refuses to accommodate families.

This is a fantastic little hotel. Its strength comes from the little details, such as the small scale, personal treatment, absence of children, quiet airconditioning unit, and complimentary limo service. Wonderful pool with water evaporators. TV and DVD-player also present, as well as a freely accessible collection of 100+ DVDs. Received excellent advice on the surroundings, including the large outlet center located only 30 minutes away (definitely recommended if you're heading out to L.A.). Don't forget to try the amazing salmon benedict at Elmer's for breakfast.

Easily the best hotel in our 11-hotel trip of the south-western US -- will certainly visit again!

Room Tip: The rooms near the lobby are probably farthest away from the busy road (e.g., room 2).
