My partner and I just returned from another WONDERFUL get-away weeked at Terrazzo! Doug & Tom are fun and friendly hosts, always available to give directions, recommendations, make reservations or help us with whatever we need (from being able to work virtual from our spacious room to planning an amazing 40 birthday celebration for me and our guests last Ocotber) to make our stay a true holiday.
The twelve air conditioned rooms (with individual thermostats) are all good/large sized, with either queen bed or king sized beds (all with firm mattresses, good quality linens, and a soft light weight summer blanket). The floors are tiled, and the art work compliments the room without dominating it.
All the little touches you look for in a top property are there: multiple pillows, waffle-weave robes, celiing fans, multi-watt bulbs for ambient lighting, wood and plastic hangers, Judith Jackson toiletries, microwaves, mini-fridges, and DVD-CD/VCR/large screen TVs with expanded cable in every room. All are kept very clean, and smell lightly of lavender once the accomodating housekeeper straightens/cleans each day. Our new favorite is Room 2, but we also have enjoyed our stays in Rooms 3 and 5.
The pool is large compared to other Palm Springs B&Bs, and the 20+ lounge chairs are covered with white terry covers. The garden, with rose bushes and manicured palm trees are a haven for hummingbirds. The jacuzzi and pool are kept warm, clean and fresh. By the pool there are six floats, and a few pool toys. In addition, there is a covered loggia surrounding the pool for reading, games, or resting out of the sun. Complimentary sunscreen, flip flops and bath sheet sized terry towles are available pool side. Doug is out there several times a day to make sure the pool deck is free of used cups, etc. and to check if we need anything.
The lounge offers free internet access, and a library of current and adult DVDs, local and gay guide books, novels and current magazines for the borrowing. LA Times and PS Desert Sun newspapers available daily. There is a compact but well appointed gym on site (but we usually work out at the nearby Gold's gym when we're in town).
Above and beyond, in the well stocked galley pantry, Tom & Doug offer us six different soft drinks, bottled water, four different teas, self-serve automated espresso coffee and flavored syrups ~ all included in your room rate. A nice bonus ~ a variety of small snacks for when the munchies set in.
Self-serve breakfast (and lunch - in season) are included. Breakfast is a variety of cereals, pastries, oatmeal, juices, fresh fruit, cheeses and hard boliled eggs. Lunch is delivered from the Aspen Mills bakery and deli, and is your choice of a hardy gourmet sandwich or refreshing salad, and Doug and Tom will stash your lunch in the fridge if you will be out and about in the early afternoon. As hosts, Doug & Tom often surprise their guests with seasonal celebrations, including BBQs, evening mixers with hors d'ouevres, and holiday themed breakfasts.
OK, so if we love it so much, why haven't we moved in? Hmmm, I guess we all have to work some time. The very few things I would improve are so small: maybe they could get the NY Times, or play more lounge/groove music by the pool ~ but those are our preferences (and we get the NY Times at the Ralph's market two minutes away).
All this attention makes it SO EASY to enjoy yourself, and to meet and mingle with other guests from around California, the US and the world. While clothing optional, we find Terrazzo neither too cruisy nor too stuffy.
Though the Terrazzo clientele is predominately gay men, Doug and Tom offer a few special weekends for lesbians, and gay/straight mix. I hear they are even considering a offering a weekend for families with children.
We stayed elsewhere in Palm Springs, and those properties were fine ~ but Terrazzo is really special.
