Let me just say that I'm not the type to stay at a gay resort, let alone a clothing optional one at that -- but I will definitely return to the Terrazzo and highly recommend it!

My partner and I enjoyed our stay and it definitely made our trip. Other reviewers said it better, but Doug & Tom were phenomenal hosts! And even if D&T were not there, the resort itself was enough to warrant repeat visits. The other guests were friendly & welcoming as well. We stayed in an upper balcony suite which was very quiet and private. I'm planning on an annual retreat to the Terrazzo and have signed up a group of my friends for next year.

Some of the pluses included the great complimentary breakfast and gourmet lunches, the hosted Saturday pre-dinner cocktail reception w/ch included an assortment of appetizers (we really didn't need to go out for dinner after that), no day passes for non-hotel guests (no sleazy cruisey atmosphere), the suite was large and comfortable, the designer toilletries, and the extensive collection of DVDs/videos (including adult titles). And the fact that it has only 12 suites, it was very relaxing & not crowded. Though I'm not a nudist, having the option to jacuzzi in the buff was also very freeing (when no one was around ;-)

I highly recommend the Terrazzo -- I am confident that you will become a fan like we are.

Most of the prior posts have done a better job than I could of describing the Terrazzo experience, but I wanted to second all the comments about Tom & Doug's excellent hosting abilities. I spent one night at Terrazzo and one night at one of the larger resorts in Rancho Mirage, and Terrazzo was the hands-down winner. Tom & Doug made me feel welcome from start to finish. My room was clean and comfortable, the other guests were friendly and interesting, and my stay was all too short. I highly recommend Terrazzo to anyone looking for a quality gay resort.

My partner and I chose to stay at Terrazzo for our second visit to Palm Springs. On arrival we were greeted by the owners, Tom and Doug, and were shown the grounds and to our room. The room was decorated very tastfully and also very clean and very comfortable. The pool/spa area is also very relaxing, with towels, flip-flops and sunscreen all provided. Tom and Doug also furnished breakfast and lunch each day, which is very convenient when you just feel like staying poolside. For dinner, they are more than helpful to make recommendations. This is a great resort that lends itself to a relaxing getaway. We will definitely return!

My partner and I just returned from another WONDERFUL get-away weeked at Terrazzo! Doug & Tom are fun and friendly hosts, always available to give directions, recommendations, make reservations or help us with whatever we need (from being able to work virtual from our spacious room to planning an amazing 40 birthday celebration for me and our guests last Ocotber) to make our stay a true holiday.

The twelve air conditioned rooms (with individual thermostats) are all good/large sized, with either queen bed or king sized beds (all with firm mattresses, good quality linens, and a soft light weight summer blanket). The floors are tiled, and the art work compliments the room without dominating it.

All the little touches you look for in a top property are there: multiple pillows, waffle-weave robes, celiing fans, multi-watt bulbs for ambient lighting, wood and plastic hangers, Judith Jackson toiletries, microwaves, mini-fridges, and DVD-CD/VCR/large screen TVs with expanded cable in every room. All are kept very clean, and smell lightly of lavender once the accomodating housekeeper straightens/cleans each day. Our new favorite is Room 2, but we also have enjoyed our stays in Rooms 3 and 5.

The pool is large compared to other Palm Springs B&Bs, and the 20+ lounge chairs are covered with white terry covers. The garden, with rose bushes and manicured palm trees are a haven for hummingbirds. The jacuzzi and pool are kept warm, clean and fresh. By the pool there are six floats, and a few pool toys. In addition, there is a covered loggia surrounding the pool for reading, games, or resting out of the sun. Complimentary sunscreen, flip flops and bath sheet sized terry towles are available pool side. Doug is out there several times a day to make sure the pool deck is free of used cups, etc. and to check if we need anything.

The lounge offers free internet access, and a library of current and adult DVDs, local and gay guide books, novels and current magazines for the borrowing. LA Times and PS Desert Sun newspapers available daily. There is a compact but well appointed gym on site (but we usually work out at the nearby Gold's gym when we're in town).

Above and beyond, in the well stocked galley pantry, Tom & Doug offer us six different soft drinks, bottled water, four different teas, self-serve automated espresso coffee and flavored syrups ~ all included in your room rate. A nice bonus ~ a variety of small snacks for when the munchies set in.

Self-serve breakfast (and lunch - in season) are included. Breakfast is a variety of cereals, pastries, oatmeal, juices, fresh fruit, cheeses and hard boliled eggs. Lunch is delivered from the Aspen Mills bakery and deli, and is your choice of a hardy gourmet sandwich or refreshing salad, and Doug and Tom will stash your lunch in the fridge if you will be out and about in the early afternoon. As hosts, Doug & Tom often surprise their guests with seasonal celebrations, including BBQs, evening mixers with hors d'ouevres, and holiday themed breakfasts.

OK, so if we love it so much, why haven't we moved in? Hmmm, I guess we all have to work some time. The very few things I would improve are so small: maybe they could get the NY Times, or play more lounge/groove music by the pool ~ but those are our preferences (and we get the NY Times at the Ralph's market two minutes away).

All this attention makes it SO EASY to enjoy yourself, and to meet and mingle with other guests from around California, the US and the world. While clothing optional, we find Terrazzo neither too cruisy nor too stuffy.

Though the Terrazzo clientele is predominately gay men, Doug and Tom offer a few special weekends for lesbians, and gay/straight mix. I hear they are even considering a offering a weekend for families with children.

We stayed elsewhere in Palm Springs, and those properties were fine ~ but Terrazzo is really special.

This is the second year I have stayed at Terrazzo in Palm Springs during July. While the weather is a bit balmy that time of year, Doug and Tom (the owners and hosts) make you feel so comfortable and welcome, that it really doesn't matter. The location is rather non-descript, along the Palm Canyon drag between dowtown Palm Springs and Cathedral City. But there is a shopping plaza just a short walk across the street (grocery store, drug store, post office, bank, etc.). Gay bars, restaurants and the downtown shopping area are just a short cab ride/drive away. Once inside the Blue Door (there's one entrance/exit....a bright blue door), there are no worries. The rooms are upscale and homey with Southwestern decor, tile floors and large glass doors facing the pool. There are only 12 units (4 are upstairs) and those that are downstairs are just steps from a very good-sized pool (plus a jacuzzi, which is nice in the evenings) and plenty of lounge chairs. A great touch is the terry cloth liner that covers each chair, in addition to the misting jets above that keep you cool all day. An afternoon read in the hammock under a giant palm tree is especially relaxing. Terrazzo is clothing optional and I'm sure it has seen it's frisky moments, but the whole place is class all the way with mostly middle-aged, friendly guys. Tom and Doug are exceptional hosts. They welcome every guest at the door, they carry your bag to your room, they give great restaurant and activity recommendations, they host a fantastic happy hour with cocktails and appetizers on weekends, they provide decadent snacks on your pillow at turndown.....they treat you like the closest of family and the best of friends! At the same time, they completely respect your privacy if you want to just hang out on your own. Continental breakfast, a great lunch, all the sodas & water you can drink, snacks, weekend happy hour, wireless internet and plenty of easily accessible parking are all included in your room rate. There are a ton of gay resorts to consider in Palm Springs and they each cater to different tastes and budgets. This one is more premium and all about comfort, class and relaxation. It's not heavily advertised and I came upon it last year completely by accident. But you can find it by searching on the web and getting to their website. No, I don't have a vested interest in telling you good things about this place! It really does get my highest recommendation!
