“Not what we reserved ... but still OK”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2012

We saw the website and saw the renovations done to the units so we planned on staying there which was central to everything we had on our list to do. We called after booking and they told us all the "Bungalows" and 2 bedroom units had already been renovated so they were ready.Check in staff was so welcoming and friendly. We went to our unit across the street and viola ... it was an unrenovated one. We called and asked if they had made a mistake or have available one of the renovated ones, but they were apparently filled up and couldn't accomadate our request. We booked there only on the promise that we would get a newly renovated one and thought we had made that clear when we called after reserving. They did not maek a nopte on our file so we got what we got and that was that. All in all it was still a nice unit, lots of space for the 2 of us with our own bathrooms. The kitchen was good and well stocked with necessities. We used the pool a few times in the mornings and it was fantastic as well. There was always staff around keepi the place top notch. We got housekeeping service everyday (bonus) and slept great in the comfortable beds. Spencer's restaurant on the premises was amazingly wonderful for Breakfast, lunch, Dinner and even late night drinks. The view of the mountain being right there was so great and picturesque. The neighborhood is beautiful as is the whole city of Palm Springs. Our stay was great dispite the lack of upgraded suites. We were very comfortable, no bugs or pests were seen the whole time we were there. The heat was awful but out of our control. The AC unit kept our place cool and very nice to come back to. We would give this place a 8 out of 10 and we would definetely book here again. Lots of good reason to go back ... Thank You Palm Springs Tennis Club.

Room Tip: We had the rooms in the Bungalows ... they were rig next to the pool. Lots of patio and seating to u...

Thank you for taking time to provide us a review of your stay. We value our guests’ comments as they provide us beneficial information and insight into improving our resort and ensuring that we deliver the utmost memorable experience. We apologize that your request for an upgraded suite could not be accommodated. We understand how disappointed you must be especially when you previewed how incredible the renovated suites were. Please accept our regrets as we would love to satisfy all of our guests but unfortunately it is not always possible especially in our peak season. However, we are ecstatic to hear that you were able to overlook that minor setback and enjoy your accommodations and all of the amazing amenities that our resort has to offer. We pride ourselves in providing an ultimate experience for all of our guests and it is evident in the pristine condition of our resort. It definitely sounds like you enjoyed your stay. We truly value and appreciate your business. We look forward to your next visit soon.

Stayed here with my family in a 1-bedroom unit in the main building that was roomy in the bedroom with a king-sized bed but a little tight in the living room/dining area. The sleeper sofa was OK but not that comfortable to sleep on. A + for daily maid service--get clean towels & toiletries as needed. Nice underground parking if you are staying in the main building only. This place has a family pool but also has a nicely done adult pool, which is located behind Spencer' s Restaurant and near the tennis courts. This was a very clean place. It was easy to walk to downtown Palm Springs, where many shops & restaurants are located. Half of the main building was getting a complete remodeling when we were there, but we didn't hear any noise. The complimentary coffee in the community room was very watered down. Overall, nice staff and a clean place.

Sincere thanks for your review of The Palm Springs Tennis Club resulting from your last stay. I always say that it is wonderful guests like yourselves that help us to improve upon an already fine-tuned machine. You are absolutely right. We are right in the middle of a major remodel of the Hotel portion of the Resort. Everything will be new from the ground up, and yes, we have been able to accomplish this without any noise issues due to confining it to a particular location where no guests were assigned suites. Although most suites are very large, we have chosen furniture in the new remodel, that will compliment the size of all suites, and have utilized every square foot, of each and every suite, for convenience, usability and atmosphere. Our new sleeper sofas will offer a new comfort level. Our Housekeeping staff is indeed A+ in their effort. Every detail is attended to, insuring that all guests have the best hospitality experience in the industry. The other amenities speak for themselves. Restaurant, pools, spas and gorgeous grounds. Did you know that our large “nicely done” pool near Spencer’s Restaurant, is the most photographed pool in the United States? True. Lots of history there. Anyway, your comments are greatly appreciated. I will personally look into the weak coffee and insure that it gets us all going on those early mornings.
Thanks again.

We have been coming to the Tennis Club for almost 30 years and it never ceases to amaze! Even in the dead of summer, the grounds, lawn, flowers are always beautiful. Everything is so well maintained. Service is always at your beckk and call .......we rarely call for service and just like being left alone. It's like home away from home.....only better!

Room Tip: Whether you get a room in the hotel or one of the bungalows, your stay is sure to be A treat!

We were there only one night on our way to Las Vegas but we could not believe it. This place is stuck in the 1960s-70s!

We probably did not have the best room as it felt as if we were in a bunker. The patio doors gave us a view of a huge rock wall so we felt like we were stuck down a cliff. Although the room was huge (huge!) everything felt as if it hadn't been changed in 40 years. You did not feel like being barefoot on the carpet...

Besides, you need to walk about 15 minutes to get to your room because this hotel spans so much ground!

I think this hotel is for families who go there to enjoy the pool and tennis courts for weeks at a time. So be it.

If you feel like being in an outdated hotel full of pictures of Kirk Douglas enjoying the golden age of the place, this is the place.

Greetings . . . I would like to take the time to respond to the valued guest that stayed with us at the Palm Springs Tennis Club, in Palm Springs, California. Please let me apologize for your less than anticipated satisfaction during your stay. We strive to make every stay a memorable one, but it does sound as if we came up short of your expectations. As stated in your review, we are a historic location that was, and still is, frequented by many well known celebrities and guests. I understand your concerns, and will address those that I can do something about. I must admit, I did notice that you did your review on Trip Advisor in July of 2012, which originated from a stay in September of 2011. In the over 10 months since you stayed with us, we have begun a major remodel of all suites in the hotel section of our resort, which will be completed within a year. Comments from our guests that have had the pleasure of witnessing our new models, have ranged from “fantastic” to “unbelievable.” Those before and after changes may be viewed on our website: www.palmspringstennisclub.com. These are the things of which we can improve upon. As for the view of the beautiful, historic and majestic San Jaciento mountainside, I am afraid there is nothing I can do about that. We hope you will give us another try. Thanks again for your review.

This timeshare is GREAT if you want to walk to downtown PS! It is a bit like going back in time- the furniture and amenities are dated, however, the grounds, the pools and the people make up for it. We stayed in one of the bungalows which are a little more private than the hotel building- however, if you don't have children, ask for a room AWAY from the pool area- it gets noisy which if you want to relax- isn't the best. FREE laundry which is great- FREE gym- really is an affordable way to spend a week in Palm Springs and we rarely used our car!

Room Tip: If you stay in the bungalows, there are 2 pools- one is "family friendly" one is small- we...

We at The Palm Springs Tennis Club want to thank our guest from Los Angeles for taking the time to write this great review. I will pass it along to our staff relating your satisfaction with their professional, but family approach received while here. We take pride in making sure all guests have a fantastic time! We are in the process of a major remodel project in the hotel portion of our resort, which will take care of that “dated” issue you mentioned. We are upgrading our suites, but are keeping that nostalgic mid-century flair which separates the historic Tennis Club from all the others. Our close proximity to the downtown village is a real plus, especially in this day of high energy costs. Yes, you literally can leave your car parked and walk to most venues while visiting this quaint town. We have three pools and five spas for an experience for all walks of life. Our Adult pool, which by the way, is the most photographed pool in America, is geared only for our 18 year and over clients, offering a serene and quiet atmosphere, as well as service from the famous Spencer’s Restaurant, located just adjacent. We do have a “family” pool, for our younger guests and a small, “backyard” pool that backs up to 8 of our suite bedrooms. Something for everyone! Again, thank you for your kind words. We look forward to your next visit to Palm Springs.

This was our 4th or 5th time to PSTC. My wife & I needed a break. We've always enjoyed staying here. We've relaxed and were looking forward to a quiet week by the adult pool with nice dinners at Spencer's, Melvin's and Johnny Costa's, hikes in the desert, museums, village fest, etc. This time, the resort was great and the staff were helpful and friendly. However, some of our fellow guests caused us to leave 2 days early.

There are posted rules regarding noise levels (continued shouting & boom boxes), children in the adult pool, glass containers (beer bottles and gallons of vodka) in or near the pools, number of people in the rooms, and parking in spaces not reserved for you (they seemed to like mine). One large, loud group apparently decided the rules did not apply to them. I called a couple of times. But I was on vacation. We left 2 days early. We hope this can be fixed. We'd like to return.

Greetings . . . First let me take the time to thank you for your letter of concern to Trip Advisor, and assure you that we take each and every comment to heart. From the date of your review, I would imagine that you most likely stayed over the week of the 4th of July holiday. This time of the year, around the 4th, has historically been a time of family get-togethers, reunions and celebrations with excitement in the air. I apologize that some guests were less than sensitive to the needs of others in the same proximity. We do indeed have rules of our resort. The Adult Pool is 18 and over, with the other two pools for families. Bottles, boom boxes and excessive drinking are not allowed in any pool area. We do also have a limit of how many people are in each suite, as well as assigned parking spots. If a suite is over occupied, proper action is taken. If someone parks in a wrong spot, action is taken. It sounds as if there was a group of rude guests that only had their own needs in mind. I again apologize for their actions. We do frequent walks of the property and notify offenders that they must follow the rules, or they will have to leave. If we receive a report from other guests of violations, we immediately go to the area and survey the situation, taking proper action. All-in-all, The Palm Springs Tennis Club is a quiet and relaxed Resort. I am sorry that your visit was not the experience we would hope you and your family could enjoy fully, and I hope you will give us another chance.

This was our first get away with a recent time share purchase ( and our first visit to Palm Springs), so were a bit nervous about what to expect. We brought another couple with us, had a 2 bed/ 2 bath unit for 5 nights and it was just lovely. Clean and comfortable, well stocked kitchen, grounds are beautiful and someone is always trimming and sweeping. Pool was a bit warm, but thats what happens when you go to PSP in June! We used the bikes, DVD's, and exercise room. The location is excellent, we walked to the main strip every day or evening and enjoyed the many shops, bars and restaurants. The Thursday evening street market was fun to browse through, and the place was really hopping on Friday and Saturday night!
We drove through Palm Desert and looked at the hotel options there, but decided we loved the Tennis club for its quaintness and location and will definitely stay there again.

I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your kind comments. I am glad that your first visit to our town was such a success, and that the Palm Springs Tennis Club was able to be a large part of that success. We take great pride in the upkeep and cleanliness of our suites and grounds, which is complimented by our Gold Crown rating. I am glad to hear that your company also enjoyed their stay.
