You always wonder when you read reviews like these how objective the writers are. I've stayed at four different gay resorts in Palm Springs and I can promise you Santiago earns every compliment it gets.
The resort is on a quiet street with three other gay resorts. Two things immediately catch your attention when you enter this resort: the grounds are really pretty and it's spacious. At one end of the resort you see the reception area, a spotless breakfast room, a patio with tables, chairs and umbrellas for morning and lunchtime dining, a colorful flower, cactus and rock garden, and the mountains. In the middle of the resort you see a heated, 50-foot pool with wide pool decks and well-padded loungers and umbrellas all around it. At the other end you see a hot tub, two double hammocks, and a shaded gazebo with comfortable sofa seating. I sat by the pool early each morning and a couple of times caught myself mumbling 'this really is a pretty resort.'
The resort building is an 'L' shape with most of the rooms on one side of the property, making it feel even more spacious. Our room on the second floor was great. A quiet air conditioning system, an overhead fan, a comfortable bed, a nice and functional bathroom (shower), a microwave and fridge, a flat screen TV and a room safe. The view of the mountains from the second floor, especially at sunset, was gorgeous.
Breakfast and lunch are complimentary (you order lunch from an area bakery menu) which really helps on the food budget. And the staff are in one word, great. Ken had to work overtime while we were there and he's a real asset to the property. While constantly busy, he's always glad to answer questions, give suggestions, etc. I've been at resorts where the staff are never around or don't care, and at resorts where the staff always seem to be saying hello or asking you how you're doing. Santiago was the perfect mix; staff were available but they knew you wanted your own space to have fun or relax. Thanks to Ken, Robert, Oscar and the newcomer Sean (hope I spelled your name correctly). You guys are great.
As for the guests who were there during our stay, there was a really nice mix of guys. The one constant was that everyone seemed to be having a good time, which is a real credit to the resort.
Second floor rooms have nice mountain views, but all rooms seem to be laid out well and have nice de...
