PROS: If you can handle a bit of a walk, it's just on the southern border (a few blocks) from the main shopping/restaurant district (about 20 min. walk/ 5 min. drive to the Spa Casino). This is especially important if you intend to indulge in some fancy desert libations or wine w/ a good dinner.
For this price, it's clean, and had a small, but well-tended pool area.
Staff was helpful and efficient.
Lots of free parking.
They allowed our small dog in the room for NO EXTRA CHARGE.
CONS: As you might expect, at this price, it's bare-bone amentities. No fridge, no coffee maker in the room (only at front desk), not even a clock. No shampoo, conditioner provided.
Towels and other linens were clean, but had clearly been through a lot of use (the blankets in particular felt, well, rough).
On short notice, my husband and I could only get a room with two double beds--queen beds were gone, hotel does not offer king beds. (However, if Lucy and Ricky Ricardo could manage--well, you get the picture.)
Some of our fellow travelers staying there were--how can I put this? I didn't feel comfortable riding alone in a elevator with some of them. But most of the hotel guests were fine, average folk.
BOTTOM LINE: A resort hotel will obviously give you a more complete and satisfying Palm Springs experience--but you've got to pay for that. Palm Spings is an expensive town.
If your visit celebrates a truly special occasion, by all means, spend the extra $$ and get into a resort.
But for those who must watch their spending very carefully, or who can handle scrimping on a place to bathe and sleep while spending those extra $$ on the city's great restaurants, shopping, gambling and site seeing, this place is a very good choice (around $60 a night for 2 people, weekend, high season)--especially if you travel with a pet.
