Although we do not have a pet, we did notice several different dogs from time to time and the desk staff says pets are welcome here (fee for pets is minimal). We came here on a "Platinum Interchange - Bonus Week" offer and were absolutely delighted. Our room was on the 3rd floor overlooking the pool and golf course with great views of the spectacular mountains. So quiet and restful. The room (carpeting, furniture, etc.) was very clean, the bedding crisp, white, and very comfortable. Yes, it is an older property but Palm Springs doesn't have a whole lot of "new" being built in the timeshare category.
Our room was a studio/efficiency but we did not go wanting for kitchen facilities or anything else. The small kitchen set-up offers 2 burners on the cooktop, toaster oven, and enough pots and pans. A word of caution, though, is that the microwave and toaster oven, when used at the same time, will pop the circuit. As the maintenance technician told us when resetting the circuit breaker, "this is an old hotel" and he suggested plugging the toaster oven in to another outlet (not close to the microwave). I also would have liked a small fry pan (only a huge 12 or 14 inch pan comes with the room). There are also 4 nice big propane bbq's around the pool area. The refrigerator is quite big, about 3/4 of a full size size unit. Lots of dishes and, if you slide the dishes over to make some room, there's plenty of space for cans and boxes of food stuffs in the cabinet. We never felt cramped and the room itself is quite a nice size.
The pool was very warm, delightfully so, and I'd guess the temperature to be about 85 degrees or even 90. It felt wonderful, even in January (the time of this visit). No problem adjusting yourself to the temperature. The depth of the pool goes from 3 1/2 feet to 8 feet in depth. Nice big deep pool. There's a line on the pool bottom where the 5 foot depth starts (fair warning). There are 2 jacuzzi style spas, too, and everything is very clean and well maintained.
This is a Wyndham property and is was such a pleasant surprise not to be badgered by timeshare staff and presentations, as we have had happen at other Wyndham locations.
The layout of this resort facility is an L-shaped building with one leg of the L consisting of a 3-floor building (internal elevator) and the other leg, consisted of 1-floor units. In the lobby, there's a nice collection of books to read, and a good DVD collection, too. Very homey. Staff is pleasant, helpful, and always ready to answer questions or give you an opinion of where to go and what to do. The tennis court is out front, and a fitness room is on the second floor (not the biggest or best but certainly adequate) and the neighborhood is residential and peaceful.
There is a great miniature golf and go-kart facility very near by (Boomers) and a Von's store and Trader Joes on the main drag "Palm Canyon Drive" (in opposite directions from each other). Downtown Palm Springs is about 5 miles away and, if you are up to long walks, it can be walked on the pedestrian paths for 99.5% of the way. The casino is in the heart of Palm Springs (5 miles away, too) and there's a big street fair near the casino on weekends.
If you walk in the other direction (to the left) on the main drag, there are very many consignment stores to peruse. A favorite store of ours was "Revivals" which carries very many new things and the furniture (sofas and love seats) were new, beautiful, and priced incredibly! Think $600 - $700 for the couch & love seat combo. You can't not come to this area and miss the consignment stores.
So, what to eat? El Pollo Loco is near Trader Joes and Upper Crust Pizza both come highly recommended. If you qualify, almost all stores offer a Senior Citizen discount (10% at El Pollo Loco) so ask. The store Revivals also offers a discount of 10% to anyone over 55 years of age.
Ask for a room facing the golf course and ask for an upper floor. We think the pets are mostly loca...
