“Excellent Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2013

We stayed for 2 nights at the Desert Isle Resort. The bungalows were fantastic with all mod cons set in a good setting with a 2 pools and tennis courts. Would thoroughly recommend it - very peaceful and relaxing

Room Tip: We stayed in one bedroomed unit which was fine for 3 of us - had a z bed for child

everybody knows that, there is no place like home, but Desert Isle of Palm Springs gives you this feeling. We stayed there for 4 days, we were so happy and comfortable during our stay. normally people do not spend a lot of time in boring hotel rooms but this is beyond your expectations. I highly recommend this resort to everybody who wants to have a peaceful vacation.

we are planing to go there next year as well

We enjoyed our stay here for the most part. The room was decent but the place needs either more pools or at least bigger ones to accommodate the number of guests. The outside of the property was aged and looked very different then the photos on their website. (I'm guessing they used color filters) but overall the value was good.

Well we are back from another 2 week holiday at the Desert Isle. We have been coming here for many years and see many familiar faces from year to year. Always a friendly greeting from the manager Charles and front desk people Marie and Trenton. We love the location and having a mini mall across the street makes it really handy. We love the Manhattan Restaurant next door --very convenient . We had exceptional weather this year. Our son and his wife and two children have been staying there for a few weeks every year now for the past several years and just love it. The rooms are large with a separate bedroom and two bathrooms plus a full size kitchen which is stocked with all the amenities. I have to comment on something that we see every year and that is the same people from grounds maintenance to pool maintenance to maid service have been there probably for twenty years that definitely tells me how well everyone gets along and has been treated by management. It is certainly like a homecoming every year when we enter the lobby -- have never felt more comfortable any where else. Can't wait to get back in 2014 .

This hotel is overpriced for what it is. The hotel smells of bleach. The lighting in our room was depressing. The staff were fake and careless. The pools is tiny. They have fake fountains in the photos which look like pools but you can't swim in them, they are just for effect.

The worst thing was that hotel charged us the full amount when we checked in - whoever heard of that? - and charged us again when we checked out. They don't care about customer service. We are waiting for our refund. Do not bother staying here, it is a joke.

This time we spent 9 days at Desert Isle and we still love it.
We were so lucky to get room no 5 wich is next to the ither room we had the last time.
We were so close to the pool as we could be (and wanted) so it was (again) perfect.

This time we spent a vacantion during Easter Hollydays and the only downside was all the other guests there - including lots of kids (and a litlle bit noise).
However, we find this place so perfect for us, great "house" with BBQ and own patio - nice people around us and a great poolarea.

Though we love the place, we met a male employee at the frontdesk who wasen't quite as serviceminded as we were used to - he should learn from the "old" staff.... !
I may seemed as nothing, but when you are greeted and served by a not very polite person (more than once) you get a bit annoyed at this employee (hope the management or board read this review!)

Room Tip: We love the remolded "houses" by the poolarea.... see if they are available.

We stayed here for one night on a rare occasion of rain in Palm Springs. The rooms are large, full kitchen, large master bedroom, pull out couch and roll away bed in the living room area. The master bath had a steam option, which was great. There are multiple pools (all relatively small) and hot tubs and a great sauna. The gym is small, but has all you basically need for a quick workout away from home. Tennis courts, raquetball, ping pong and equipment for all at the front desk. They also have bikes to use-- a large selection, which we didn't use because it was raining. You can also check out games and movies to watch in your room from the front office.

All rooms are non smoking, although smoking is allowed at the pools and outside. No pets allowed at all, which I found refreshing, having a family member w/ an allergy to cats and dogs and always a little weary of those who can't seem to leave their animals in the care of others or a kennel. Quiet, no problem sleeping, and the place was packed. The room was very clean. They do not offer daily maid service, but you can put a card outside your door requesting what you need: towels, soap, etc. and it will be delivered. And, if you want maid service you can request it , but it is an extra charge.

It's a bit like an apartment or condo, and you are close to the "neighbors", which we didn't feel at all because of the inclement weather and no one was outside on the patio or bar be queing. However, in warmer times, you might feel as if you were vacationing with others--which can be good or bad depending on the crowd there. For example, if you had small children and there were other families there it would be fun for all the kids to ride bikes, swim, etc. However, if you were in the mood for a quiet afternoon on the patio, but the group next to you was a loud family it might not be as welcoming.

You are close to golf courses--within 4 " to Indian Canyons, close to Tahquitz Creek, restaurants, movie theaters, library, and hiking trails. The resort sits at the base of the mountains, and it was a great view out of the window to the snow frosted San Jacinto mountains in the light of day after a cold, rainy, windy night. There is a deli right next to the resort, and a Walgreens that carries almost everything but the kitchen sink (toiletries, cards, gifts, wine, ice cream, some food items, some clothing, cosmetics, hats, etc.) on the same side of the street in the other direction.

However, the best part of this place is the people. We had to leave before our intended departure time due to a family emergency. Jackie at the front desk couldn't have been nicer, not charging me for the night I left early, sending me my forgotten items in my rush to leave and doing it all w/ competency and kindness. I also had a problem with my car and the maintenance man graciously helped me out.

I would return here again with the hope of spending some more time and enjoying all Desert Isle has to offer.
