“No frills hotel but highly recommended by 2 fussy Brits”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 6, 2013 via mobile

Stayed here from Sat Mar 1st for 3 nights. Just came over from Vegas & wanted to cute, cheap place to lie in the sun & chill for 3 days. In these respects it's better than other rip off places out there!
People all friendly, cheerful & accommodating & everyone naturally "luuuurved" our accents. Hotel perfect for a brief stopover for 3-5 nights after the craziness of vegas; nothing flash but spotlessly clean & a sparking heated pool & hot tub. Loads of loungers & pet friendly which we loved seeing all the cute doggies trotting around
Easy to get to all the local downtown eateries
Highly recommended. Lovely staff, good location 1 mile from downtown so easily walkable as a Brit but I guess we we were the only "brave" ones!!!!!
Lots of cute (expensive) shops downtown & some great eateries. My 5 visit & I still love it
Oh nearly forgot comfiest beds I've ever slept in & boy am I fussy with beds
Thx caliente

This is a great place to stay. Has a large pool and a very relaxed atmosphere. Many restaurants within walking distance. Pleasant walking areas around the hotel. This motel has no restaurant on site. Has free parking and wifi .

This property was renovated last year which brings everything up to an acceptable standard. You don't have to go to Hotwire or Priceline for a good rate here, Expedia has refundable weekday rates at $62.00 per night. The location is good with a good coffee shop a block away and a Elmers for breakfast neaby. Palm springs downtown is a 5 minute car ride. I thought the pool water could be cleaner and the barberques are very small charcoal types. Staff are very good. This is an old style motel which means you can park outside your front door and walk 20 feet to the pool. Old tube TVs, water faucets with the hot and cold mixed up and plumbing water noise from upstairs units add to the charm.

Room Tip: Gound floor near the pool.

We were planning an overnite in Palm Springs & decided on the Caliete Tropics for the location & overall reasonable prices. When we arrived, they could not provide us with the room we needed for my disabled husband, room given was VERY SMALL, bed uncomfortable & quite outdated. Although property ifself is clean, needs a lot of updating, especially if you might want a restaurant nearby, have to get in your car & drive!!! Think they need to correct the name of this property to MOTEL instead of Resort?, not hardly lives up to that name.

Room Tip: cheap but disappointing

We stayed at the Caliente Tropics Resort for 3 days. Although they have renovated the reception area, the motel is dated, but very comfortable. I definitely would recommend the suite. For the same price as a regular room at a more "upscale" hotel, you get a living room, a spacious bathroom with large countertop, a coffee maker and refrigerator, and a large comfortable bedroom with a large closet. Not much is close, but there is a supermarket and shopping center about a mile east. We enjoyed our stay and for the price, you can stay a little longer than planned. If you do want the suite, reserve at least a month ahead of time since there are only a few suites available. We did have to ask that our heater in the bedroom be serviced and a maintenance person eventually did arrive to fix it.

Room Tip: Choose the suite with king bed.

We drop down to Palm Springs a few times a year to get out from under the Pacific North West grey sky, and when we are looking for sun and pool time on the cheap we go to Caliente. Rooms are always clean, grounds are well manicured and taken care of with fresh plants and flowers each time we have visited, and the pool area is just what we are looking for in early fall and early spring when Palm Springs is at that comfortable 75-80 degrees. If you don't expect room service availability or a restaurant/bar on property and are looking for a decent pool then this is the place for great Sunday-Thursday prices. We have stayed at other hotels in the area for a quick sun get away and paid 2x-3x the price and still gravitate back to the Caliente Tropis.

Room Tip: Second floor overlooking the back end of the pool is nice and quiet with no road noise.

Other reviewers were accurate; think "motel" and you won't be surprised. The place is older, as is most everything in Palm Springs, but they keep it CLEAN! I don't care if my sink is inside or outside of the bathroom area, as one person complained, and the shower seemed brand new. The pool area was kept up to high standards. A nice place, especially if you can get it for $65/night, as one reviewer did... that would be a steal!
